Apex Vs Glacier

Matthew POV

       "Oh Shit." As soon as the words left my mouth, the giant creature roars, the sound echoing off the broken city buildings. It sends chills down my spine. 

       "Kyle, what do we do?" Taylor asks my brother in a terrified whisper. 

       " WE RUN!" he yells. Everyone obeys, following hot on his heels. Behind us, the creature begins the chase, the thundering booms of its steps filling me with fear. Kyle turns right, then left. Ahead, we see a bridge. What's left of it, anyway. "C'mon, we cross, we get to the center! Hurry!" Kyle tells us. One by one, we traverse the sketchy bridge, each person careful to not slip and not fall.  First Hayley, then Kayla, Taylor, me, and last of all, Kyle, make it across. But the thing is still behind us, and it looks hungry. I get a good look at it. The shape isn't kaiju, but it can't be a jaeger. It kinda looks like both, actually. Someone shakes my shoulder, bringing me to reality. Kyle motions for everyone to hide. Me and Kayla run into a building, Taylor hiding behind a large truck, Hayley and Kyle struggling to find somewhere to conceal themselves from the monster approaching us. My heart beats faster as they scramble underneath some rubble, barely enough to keep them out of sight. At least, from my angle. But what about 20 stories high? Will this... Apex predator see them? No sound is made as the monster finally booms into the street where my friends and I are hiding. Kayla's eyes are wider than dinner plates, her fear visible with her slight shaking. I quietly extend my hand to her, taking hers and holding it. I can see her calm down a little, but not much. Apex, the creature I've just named, walks and stops right by the rubble where Hayley and my brother are. Oh no, I think. Oh no.

       Kyle POV

       Hayley and I don't move an inch. The monster is right above us, as if hunting its prey. US, I realize grimly. Hayley grabs my hand, holding it tight. I feel it start to go numb, but I don't dare make a sound. Plus, its helping her stay as quiet as she can. I can see its feet, every step it takes sending a shock wave through the ground. After a few minutes, the thing moves on, continuing its search for food. I breath a sigh of relief. Hayley looks at me, eyes moist with the tears she has struggled to contain. She rushes forward and hugs me, her tears finally giving way. I rub her back, telling that it's over, the creature is gone now. 

       "Kyle, I thought it was gonna kill us, or eat us. I-I thought" she says, but I stop her.

       "Hey, look at me. I. Am. Still. Alive. We, all of us, are still alive. It takes more than that to kill me, that's for sure. You even more." Hayley smirks, silently but obviously agreeing with me. It's one of the things I love about her. Even when she's been scared shitless, her half-ego is still gonna be intact. No matter what. Like my optimistic attitude. Never gonna go away, that's for sure. Just as I pull away, though, there's a roar and the piece of the building Hayley and I are hiding under is lifted and thrownto the side, exposing us both. Hayley screams, which makes my blood turn to ice more than Apex, who now towers over us menacingly. All anyone can do is watch and stare as Apex reached down to grab us in his metal hand. I hold Hayley, my last moments being spent protecting the girl I love so much. "Hayley, you should know that... I-I love you. I love you with every ounce of my being." Hayley looks at me, tears running down her cheeks. She smiles a little.

       "I love you too, Kyle. I love you." She squeezes me, and just as Apex's hand is about to close on us, something unbelievable happens.

       "HEY!" A voice shouts. The hand stops, then Apex turns his head towards the voice. Before he does, there's a bang, a bright red flare soaring towards Apex's eyes. The monster roars in frustration, blinded by the flare. A dark-clad figure runs over to Hayley and me. He offers his hand, which Hayley takes. "Follow me, quickly! I can get us all out of here, but you must trust me to do so first." I nod to Hayley, who follows behind the stranger. Just as we pass by the other's hiding spots, I yell,
