Rite of Passage

Virat was resting after the tiresome England series in the Lokesh household. Why you may ask well because he is a part of their family and Chennai is not far from Banglore. But the main reason is his kiddos parents who absolutely love to pamper him with everything. Right now, he was alone in Rah's room who had already left for Mumbai not to join his den but to drop his bhabs and Angel apparently, he can't let them go alone, he doesn't trust anyone around them. So, after a long discussion he had to give in to his kiddos demand of going early with them so right now KL Rahul is rested in his apartment with his family, not that he has a problem. He is worried about his kiddos newly found energy, since Vamika is born his silent and calm Rahuliya has turned into an over possessive sugar high kid.

Sighing he started snooping around his childhood room because why not it's his brothers' room and he has all the rights in the universe to do that, also he is running out of blackmail material. Suddenly his phone started vibrating what now he thought and checked it. Looking at it he smiled a happy and proud smile but soon it turned into a sad one. His one kiddo got his success on the cost of his other kiddos, but he knows this had to be done. He is sure the successful one would be more upset than the other one.

Vi (thinking): "chal beta Virat shuru hoja" knowing he must manofy his kiddo and then give him his rite of passage like he did with all his kids when they became captains. So, dialling him he waited for his Rishu to pick. Soon the phone was answered, and a meek voice called out for him "bhaiya".

Vi: "congratulations captain!!!" over excitedly

Rish: "temporary captain bhaiya I'm only doing this for that gadha Shrey. Idiot ko abhi injure hona tha agar mein nahi leta toh who log uss sandpaper ko banate." angrily

Vi: "shant bache shant krodh manushiya ke sehat ke liye hanikarak hai."

Rish: "bhai apke muh se yeh upvachan shoba nahi dete"

Vi: "up what now? Woh chod and tell me how you are feeling?" he asked in a serious no nonsense tone

Rish: "I don't know bhaiya I feel happy for getting selected as captain but I also feel sad not just because I have taken over my best friends position in the team but also because there are many other deserving Indian cricketers in this team with more experience who will make great captains." He confessed knowing he can't hide anything from his bhaiya

Vi: "have you spoken to Shrey and our boys there?"
Rish: "no bhaiya himmat hi nahi hui jab news announce hui I came to my room"

Vi: "acha hua tune kuch nahi bhola varna woh sab milke tujhe wahi marne lagte teri izzat ka bhaji paala ban jata"

Rish: "kya?"

Vi: "you know the beauty of our team Rish, we always support each other even if that means giving up on something they wished for and I'm very sure they are celebrating your captaincy more than you. Haan there are experienced people in your team I think even they will agree that you deserve this captaincy. You have proved yourself worthy of it and they will always be there by you to support you and guide you. Look at this as your training period one day you will have to take the reins from us. Your management team took the right decision by making you the captain because your young blood and you guys bring a variation in the whole game. You guys enter with a fresh mind and perspective than us seniors, you all add a unique and niche' experience to the game."

Rish: "but bhai what we know is what we learn from all of you"

Vi: "exactly you all are a unique blend of all our personalities mixed with your individual personalities makes a deadly blend which is beneficial for your team and deadly for the others. It's good to have you guys as captains now at this stage of your careers you all return back to us with stronger personalities and understanding of the game." Thinking about Shrey and Rah.

Rish: "do you think I'll be able to do this bhai?"

Vi: "of course remember tu mera sher hai aur mere sher kuch bhi kar sakthe hai! We have trained you all to take up this role and we know you will make us proud. Aur agar kabhi bhi doubt ho we all are one call away and you have Jinks, Ash and Shik with you na"

Rish: "yaar bhaiya apko humesha kaise pata rehta hai hum kya sochte hai." With a typical Rishab like smile

Vi: "I'm your brother and your captain idiot I know everything and anything about all of you and never question my up whatever" smiling

Rish: "thanks bhai and its upvachan"

Vi: "whatever now let's get to the main reason I called before Amma calls for dinner"

Rish: "kya bhaiaya?"

Vi: "to give you your rite of passage normally I do it face to face, but we can't so after the call go to Jinks."

Rish: "ok bhaiya"

Vi: "now listen you are the captain now this team is your team so don't let anyone tell you anything else. It's your decision that will be the final one not anybody else's there will be many people who will come and tell you what to do but it's your choice to listen to them. You always do what you feel is right not what others feel is right. As a captain you know your team inside out and you know what you need to do to bring their full potential out. Sometimes you might feel it is wrong but if you believe that will help your team or an individual flourish than do it. Remember no one knows them better than you so walk along with them not before them not after them. There are many of our rivals there but right now they are our teammates and treat them like one but don't forget that they are our rivals so don't give them any information about the ICT and how we work. We trust you Rish we know you can do it; we believe in you. welcome to the captains club Rishab." With glassy eyes and proud smile

Rish: "thanks bhaiya" with glassy eyes

Vi: "all of you grow up so fast" chuckling

Rish: "kya app bhi bhaiya"

Both start talking to each other sharing tips and making fun of a few things in Rah's childhood room. Soon Rah's amma calls Vi down for food.

Vi: "chal I gotta go you take care and see you soon Captain"

Rish: "see you on the pitch Captain"

Both hang up with a satisfied smile. Rish made his way to Jinks and demanded him to give him his gift his rite of passage from his bhaiya. Jinks shaking his head at the over excited kid passed him a small box from his wardrobe. Rish tore open the box like a kid on Christmas eve, inside the box there was another box opening it he found a leather wristband. He had seen Rah and Shrey wear these since last year's IPL. Taking it out he scanned it, it was a simple leather band with a small metal lion on it with captain engraved under the belt and brothers engraved on a little dog tag near the clasps along with the ICT logo.
