Avery's POV
"Hey, Avery, how was school?" Mother asked as I walked through the door.
"Good," I smiled. "There was a new kid today we talked and became friends. He gave me his number."
My mother blushed, "Really?"
I nodded, "Yup!"
I felt happier than usual, my hopes were high and I didn't know why at all. This surge of amazing feelings just made me want to do something reckless. This was the weirdest thing that happened to me in forever. The rush of happiness and excitement I'm getting is making my mom happy.
Than, I heard a familar ring tone.
"I'll get it!" I said happily.
"Hello, its Avery," I greeted.
"Hi, Avery," he greeted. "Wait, Avery?"
"Yes, my name is Avery," I replied.
"Johnnie, who you talking to?" Someone in the background yelled.
"Wait, what's your last name?" I asked.
"Guilbert. Johnnie Guilbert," he calmly replied.
"Johnnie?!?" I yelled.
I hung up the phone and started sobbing.
"Mom," I weeped.
My mother sat infront of me, holding me gently.
"He's alive, mom. He's Alive," I sobbed harder. "After all these years I've been waiting, he's not dead."
I wiped my tears away and picked up the phone to call him again.
"Johnnie?" I greeted and sniffled.
"Are you okay? You started crying and hung up," he said worry.
"Yeah, but, I have to ask you a question," I replied.
"Sure," he agreed.
"What happen to you approximately four years ago?" I asked curiously.
"My best friend and I were playing in the grass fields and the ball went into the woods," he started, "I went in and got it and I never returned."
"How are you alive?" I asked.
He replied, "I fell down a steep hill, then taken in by some dudes. They beat me up and I was basically abused by them for two years. I finally escaped, alive and broken."
I started crying, "Johnnie, this is your best friend, Avery."
"Avery?" He sounded joyfully sad, but he laughed triumphantly.
"I was the one in the grass field with you. We've been best friends since we were born basically, I was your best friend. We had playdates everday, talked to each other everyday," I weeped, "Johnnie, its me." I whispered.
He dropped the phone and yelled, screaming with happiness.
"Oh my gosh, Johnnie, oh my gosh," I was ripped. "I can't believe it, oh my gosh."
I sobbed harder and Harder. After all these years, I seriously never thought this day would come any sooner.
"I think I just found my best friend, again," he whispered.
