the fires you started

the words stuck in your teeth

like strawberry ice cream

slice your tongue

like ageing rum

but the bottle's out of reach

the words lodged in your teeth

and everything in between

provide you

with a perfect motive

to be scared of me

the keys you play with ease

on major fifth to three

cut through skin

like water and wind

you're begging on your knees

your heart is like a lighthouse

drawing ships to you at sea

but in broad daylight

you just can't thrive

and then you crumble deep

the fires that you started

make you say things very mean

and what a poison

you put your voice in

don't you know it's hurting me?

you see the consequences

of your words and devilish deeds

and now you wish

to go back in

a silver time machine

you left me in an open crowd

i left you in the dust

you left me here to try to heal

i left you there to rust

so now your eyes are tearing up

pouring wild and free

they're leaking gold

so cold

so i can watch the way you plead.
