Finally Facing My Fears

"CATLYNN PASSED THE DRIVERS TEST!" Elle screamed as we barged in, telling my family and Red the good news. I started to blush with embarrassment as my entire family hugged me tightly and congratulating me.

"She drove us home!" Elle said happily. I started to scream into a pillow. While I was so proud of myself for finally stepping up and learning how to drive, my family did not need to make such a big deal out of it. Seriously. They were taking this way too far.

It was a nice, hot summer afternoon and my usually pale cheeks were showing just the slightest bit of a tan from how much time I've spent outside in the last couple of days leading up to the driver's test. I reached for my wallet and opened it up, smiling. Inside was my driver's license, a little card that I had no idea would be in my possession until today.

I smiled and skipped off to my room, putting my driver's license with the other various cards I've collected, along with mangled hospital bracelets. My debit card, my school ID card, and a random hotel room key from the eighth grade Washington D.C. trip was in that collection.

A lot of random mementos from my time with Elle were in my room. The string of Polaroid pictures of me and my friends were hung from a clothesline above my bed. The purple journal Ryan gave me right before I turned thirteen. My yearbooks from seventh, eighth, ninth, and now tenth grade were sitting on a bookshelf. And of course, my wall of stickers from Katie, my own wall of fame.

From the window in my room, I could slightly see my car. The car that I drove home, and was able to drive home for the rest of my life. No more jumping in the backseat of Elle's car, I had my own car to drive. I was a sixteen year old girl with a license, better act my age and put the license to use!

A small part of me was still worried that I was going to crash some day and end up in the same condition Jessica was almost three years ago. Almost everyone I knew has reassured me that it won't happen, that I'll be okay just as long as I stayed safe on the road, but I was still worried.

I shook off all the crash worries and went back out to the living room, grabbing a cup from the cabinet and getting myself a glass of water.

"Hey, what's up, 16-year-old?" Evan asked playfully. I rolled my eyes at my brother and said, "Well, I drove seven miles home in a massive traffic jam, what a great day to get my driver's license, huh?"

Evan laughed and passed me a bag of chips. "Come on. We're having a family Monopoly championship. Just like old times, right?" he asked. I grinned and sat down on the floor as Elle set up the game.

"Hey, Cat, how many times have you won Monopoly since we've known you?" Alice asked. I groaned, knowing that my family would not let me hear the end of this if I gave them the answer.

"Once. Once in three years. And don't bug me about it, I know I suck at this game, I know I'm a crappy spender, leave me alone!" I laughed as the game began.

While my family was screaming at each other over who landed on who's properties, my mind kept driving to me driving. And the crash. Both of the crashes.

Me almost dying. In a coma. Jess in a coma. Ryan in the hospital.

I couldn't help but wonder...

What if that happened again?

AN: So Cat has her license now! Yay! I'm just saying this now, I have two plans in place at the moment. A really evil plan and a really cute plan. Which will come first, I don't know. You just have to wait and see! Anyway, hope you enjoyed and catch ya later! (I changed up my catchphrase a little bit, lol)
