My phone was ringing at six in the morning, waking me up. I groaned and rolled over to grab it, almost rolling right out of bed.
The name on the screen surprised me.
Elissa Reeve.
Elissa hasn't called me or spoken to me since 2015. It's been well over a year since I last saw her, and I was wondering why she hasn't called me or responded to any of my texts until just now. I pushed the thought aside and answered the phone.
"Lissy?" I asked.
"Lynnie...guess what? I have news." Elissa said over the phone. She sounded like she was about to burst with excitement.
"What? Did you get a boyfriend?" I said, almost certain that she didn't. Elissa laughed and said, "No. Since I last saw you, I was thinking about what you've been through, you know, with the adoption and stuff."
"And?" I said hopefully, putting the pieces together.
"I decided to adopt a kid of my own." Elissa said.
I started screaming with excitement. This was the greatest news of my entire life. I was an aunt, and I couldn't believe it.
"WHAT'S THEIR NAME? HOW OLD ARE THEY? TELL ME EVERYTHING!" I squealed. I couldn't hold in my excitement any longer.
"Well, her name is Acadia, and she's three years old." Elissa said. I gasped. It was a toddler.
"If you're not too busy today, I would love for you to come over and meet her. I'll text you my address, I moved back to the city." Elissa said. I audibly squealed again and said, "I'm sure my mom won't mind. See you in an half hour! Love you!"
Elissa hung up and then I quickly texted Red to cancel the plans I had with her today. I then grabbed a sweatshirt, my phone, and sprinted out the front door.
"Sunshine? It's 6AM, where are you going?" Elle said, rubbing her eyes.
"It's important! See you in an hour!" I screamed, slamming the front door behind me and running out.
_________
I found Elissa's apartment with a couple of wrong turns, then knocked on the front door. I couldn't wait for her to answer the door so I could meet my niece.
I heard a tiny voice babble from behind the door and I had to stop myself from squealing. Then, the doorknob turned, and Elissa appeared in the doorway.
"LISSY!" I screamed, hugging my sister. "Where's the kid?"
"Jeez, Catlynn, I haven't seen you for almost two years and I didn't even get a 'how are you?'" Elissa laughed. I slapped her playfully and she led me through the doorway.
And that's when I saw a tiny blonde head peek out from the corner.
"Acadia? Can you come here, sweetie?" Elissa said. The girl appeared and I squealed a little.
"Acadia, this is your Auntie Catlynn." Elissa said. The girl giggled a little and hugged me tightly.
"Auntie!" she squealed. I started crying happy tears. This girl was the most adorable little thing I've ever seen in my life. She had rather pale skin, tiny freckles dotting her face, sea blue eyes, and curly blonde hair. She was wearing a pink T-shirt and dark blue overalls.
"She's beautiful." I whispered to Elissa. Elissa mouthed a "thank you" and then went into the kitchen.
"When did you get her?" I asked Elissa, putting my niece on my hip. Elissa laughed and brought a pot of water to a boil and pulled out a box of mac and cheese. "She became officially mine last week."
"Do you want to come and meet my family? I don't think you've ever met them before." I said. Elissa nodded and said, "Come on, let's go. Acadia! Do you want to go to Auntie Cat's house?"
"Auntie Cat! Auntie Cat!" Acadia chanted. This child was certainly a cutie pie.
"Let's go!" I cooed, not really knowing what to do with a kid.
But I'll certainly figure it out.
__________
"Mom! I'm home! And I have a surprise!" I said, banging through the front door of my apartment. As expected, my entire family was there. I texted them all telling them to come over ASAP because I had a special surprise for them.
"What's the surprise, kid?" Evan asked as I walked in. "Did you win the lottery or something?"
I smiled at my brother and said, "Better" with happy tears in my eyes.
Then, Elissa and Acadia came in, and my entire family started freaking out.
Barrett, Katie, Jess, and Elle started screeching like pterodactyls, Alice was staring at Acadia in confusion, and Evan, Jon, and Ryan looked like they had no clue what to do with the tiny human who had just waltzed into my house.
"Everyone...this is Acadia. My niece." I said to my family. Acadia giggled again and hugged Elle's legs.
"Hey, sweetie." Elle said in response to the tiny girl hugging her.
"Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait." Jon said. "Is that...your sister?" He pointed to Elissa and I nodded. Elissa said, "Hi. I'm Elissa Reeve. Catlynn's biological sister."
Now, Elissa and I look like polar opposites. She looked more like my mom and I looked more like my dad. We nodded to each other and giggled.
Acadia let go of Elle and started clinging to her own mother, Elissa. I gasped. I couldn't believe I had a niece of my own. She's so adorable, and I love her so much.
Finally, what was left of the Reeve family has gotten a new start.
AN: I had this plan for a while, and I couldn't wait any longer. Acadia is so cute and I love her so much! Hope you enjoyed! Catch ya later!
