"MY ROOM!" I squealed at the top of my lungs as Elle managed to fit my wheelchair through the front door. I haven't seen my room in a month and a half.

"Jeez, Cat, calm down! We're not even inside yet!" Elle said to me, giggling. She got me in the apartment door and I gasped. I had somehow forgotten some things about this place while I was gone. The stack of board games in the corner was messed up from me grabbing a game for the road trip, and the kitchen was an absolute mess.

Out of the corner of my eye, I could see my room, the door creaked open slightly. I gasped and rolled over to the door, pushing it open. I squealed as I managed to get myself up on my bed and sigh, falling into the pillows. It really was good to be home.

"Hey, Sunshine? Can I come in your room for a few?" Elle asked from outside the door. I happily said, "Sure" and Elle creaked open the door, watching me giggle hysterically. She laughed slightly as well then said, "Hey, Sunshine, are you glad to be home finally?" I nodded frantically, then sighed and fell back again into my pillows.

"We can't really do much to celebrate for a few weeks, huh?" Elle asked. "You know, with you not being able to walk very far or very much at the moment. But your doctor says you're making good progress and you'll be back to normal by your birthday, at the latest."

I sighed, realizing that June 30th was too long to wait. "Hey Mom?" I asked.

"Hmm?" Elle said in response, seeming to snap out of some kind of daze. I laughed slightly then said, "Did my doctor say anything about school? Because I'm sick of homeschooling and want to see my friends again."

Judging by the way Elle started to sigh, I wasn't going to like the answer to the question I just asked. "Um...you'll probably be going back to school right after the winter vacation. But you're still gonna be on crutches and you can't do sports or anything like that, okay?" Being able to do sports was the least of my worries, I didn't even like sports in the first place.

"I'm going to leave you be for a few hours, okay? I'll bring dinner to you when I make it and it's ready. I love you, Sunshine." Elle said. She kissed my head and was just about to make her way out the door when I stopped her short.

"Mommy?" I asked. Elle turned around and smiled softly at me.

"Yeah, Sunshine?" Elle asked. I smiled and said, "Can you stay with me for a bit? I could use the company. Granted, you basically never left my hospital room, so I'm surprised I'm not a little sick of you by now." I laughed, and I think Elle could tell that last part was a joke. Which it was.

Elle smiled and said, "Of course, Sunshine. Always." I unmade my bed and slid under the covers, and Elle flopped on the end of my bed, being careful to not lay on my feet by accident.

"Tired?" Elle asked, yawning a little.

"You and me both, Mom." I said, laughing. Elle sighed and got up from my bed. "Well, it's getting late. I'm going to make you a sandwich if you get hungry later. If you need anything, just holler. Okay?" Elle asked. I nodded and Elle kissed my head.

"Good night, my Sunshine. Sweet dreams." Elle said on her way out the door.

I woke up to complete darkness, even from under the door. Which I wasn't used to, given that hospitals hallways are nearly always bright and sunny. I sighed, rolling over to check my alarm clock to see what time it was.

Or at least, attempting to roll over.

"MOM?!" I screamed. "MOM!!!!!"

I usually never woke up Elle in the middle of the night, but this was important. Elle came running in and said, "Sunshine? What's wrong? Are you okay?"

"I can't move my legs." I managed to choke out.
