Maya's POV

"What about this skirt?" My mom asked pulling out the twentieth bottom option from my closet.
"Mom, it's a baseball game. It's not a big deal." I smiled slipping my hair back into a pony tail.
"You guys might go somewhere after." She chirped.
"How about you guys just stay in tonight? Hang out in the kitchen...where I can keep an eye on things." Shawn prodded from my bedroom door again.
"Dad, we'll be fine."
"He just doesn't want his baby girl hanging around boys yet." My mom smiled giving me a side hug.
"I just got her! Why do I have to share her?!" Shawn complained sarcastically from the door.

My mom and I laughed.
"I'm sixteen dad, I'll be fine."
"Isn't Lucas eighteen?" He asked trying to find a way for me not to go
"Not for three more months, besides, I'll turn seventeen in five months."
"Still it won't be legal."
"Romeo and Juliet act. If you were dating before the adult turned eighteen it's legal- and I've known Lucas since sixth grade. It's fine. I thought you liked Lucas?!" I asked.
"No, Maya I do like him. He's a great kid, I just don't want to see you get hurt again."
"It's Lucas, he could never hurt me. Now get out, I have to get dressed." I said kicking my parents out of my room
"But we haven't finished picking your outfit?"
"I've had it planned for a week, I was just letting you have fun." I smiled shutting my door.

I put all the clothes my mom pulled out of closet and was surprised when I was able to see my bed again. Lucas had told me we were going to a baseball game, so not wanting to look off I planned ahead to see which teams were playing today. The Yankees and the Red Sox, and after having taking amusement in Lucas's and Zay's baseball wars, I knew Lucas was a Yankees fan. I wasn't going to go Yankee-crazy though. My outfit was honestly just a cute white shirt with a knot on the right side of the front, dark blue ripped jeans, white shoes and a plain white hoodie wrapped around my waist. I double checked my make up which wasn't any different than normal, grabbed my bag and finishing touch and left my room.

"Maya, Lucas rang he'll be up in a minu-" Mom started as she heard me head down the stairs.
"What's wrong? Are you ok?" I asked her, noticing that Shawn was staring at me too as she placed her hand over her heart.
"Nothing's wrong baby girl, you look amazing." She smiled softly.
"Yeah...you look wow..." Dad added on.
"It's just a shirt and jeans, nothing special." I shook my head.
"And the fact that you can look amazing in that says a lot."

A knock sounded at the door.

"It's time!" My mom said in a sing song voice, grabbing her phone.

"Mom, no pictures, please."
"Not a chance." She smiled.

"Hey Lucas." I sighed, smiling, shaking my head and opened the door.

Lucas's head shot up to meet my eyes with a soft smile and a adorable shine of excitement in his eyes which faded into shock. I felt my excitement become a nervous fire in my throat.

"What's wrong?" I asked.
"No, no nothings wrong...you just...you look amazing..." He smiled.
"Oh...thanks, you clean up nice too Ranger Rick." I blushed.
"This is for you." He offered, clearing his throat.

I looked down to see his fingers fidgeting on the stem of a yellow rose.

"Huckleberry...it's beautiful thank you." I smiled at the gesture, taking it from him.

I grimaced on the inside though because of the meaning of a yellow rose: friendship. I just hoped Lucas didn't know that.

"I know yellow roses symbolize friendship, but in Texas the yellow rose is part of our history with San Antonio and the Alamo, but I also know that yellow is one of your favorite colors..." He rambled.

I smiled even bigger and took his hand.

"I love it, thank you."

A flash went off in the corner of my eyes as my mom lowered her phone.
