It was the very end of Solis Diem, the first day of the week, and the sun was setting over the horizon. Soraya stood on the balcony outside the girl's dormitory, watching the blazing ball before her dip into the murky depths of the Valtic Ocean. Her long, strawberry blond hair blew gently in the cool breeze, and an extra gust of wind caused her to shiver.
Tonight, I have to be in the holy place when the demon arrives.
The girl's grip on the steel railing tightened as the last bit of light was swallowed up by the dark blue sea.
I can use the rest of my Air Magic to fly down and back up to this spot, but I doubt I'll have any left for next time. I'll have to figure out a new way to sneak out of the school undetected.
She and Rhys hadn't had time to properly strategize. Instead, they were pulled into extra orchestra practice for the upcoming Matumi Beach Concert. Much to Soraya's surprise, her fingers had memorized various violalin melodies much faster than she had originally anticipated.
I wonder if I'm absorbing Rhys' ability to play every time I fuse with him. I don't want to steal his talent.
Thankfully, Rhys' instrument still sang gracefully under his dancing fingertips. She silently prayed to the Gods to let him keep his hard-earned abilities before peeking at the palms of her hands, where her Air and Water Magic tattoos shimmered faintly on her skin.
I really need to wash my gloves.
The moon, half full and half shadow, cast its dim light onto the world below. Soraya spotted an ominous mist forming over the ocean, growing larger and darker with each passing second. She narrowed her eyes and stared as the black fog devoured everything in its path. The horizon was no longer visible. The sea and trees beneath it were enveloped by its hazy outline as it approached the school, as it marched steadily towards her.
He'll be here soon.
The girl's mind wandered to Jacquelle, who had been distant for the past week. The blond hadn't teased her for a few days, not even when she had stumbled while playing a new part in the song the day before. That bothered Soraya more than she cared to admit.
What are you planning now?
The steadily approaching fog was now outside the yellow brick wall surrounding Darkwood Academy. Soraya could see the black, ominous clouds oozing over the top of the enclosure like a slow moving water fall.
"Soraya!"
The girl turned and looked at the neighboring tower on the other end of the roof. Rhys was rapidly waving his arms in the air to grab her attention.
"Are you okay?" he called over to her. His voice was faint, but she could easily understand him.
My hearing and eyesight are better too. Is that also because of fusing with Rhys?
