Violet's POVJasper stood up from the table without hesitation, the worry clear in his eyes. He was right to be worried. For his well-being, that was.
My wolf whimpered at the thought of my mate being hurt, but I sent her the image of the horrific moment between Jasper and my brother as a not so gentle reminder. At this, she stopped whimpering for Jasper and started whimpering for Jon.
Oh my God- Jon. Where was he? I knew he must be somewhere near. I could sense him, and I could briefly find traces of his familiar scent. The thought of his close proximity made me slightly calmer. Jon had that effect on me.
The large wooden door clicked shut, and I turned around to face my stupid, arrogant, violent, damningly beautiful mate. I wondered in brief annoyance how I could be so goddamn attracted to him while hating him so much. I mean, surely it should have had the opposite effect? He was just too damn sexy for his own good. Despite myself, I groaned, and my mate broke the silence.
"Violet. What the hell happened?"
My brows raised in disbelief. "What-" I clicked my teeth, overcome by frustration. "What the hell happened? I would tell you, but I wouldn't know where to start."
"Well you wanted to talk. So talk."
I remained silent, looking at my dangerous mate. He was so different now to when I had first met him. Back then, he had seemed so sweet. So innocent. But now that he was in his element, all of that had changed.
"Violet, I was in the middle of an extremely important meeting before you so rudely burst in. If that was for no reason whatsoever, I'm going to be pissed."
My mate's words registered in my mind, but in that moment, my gaze fixed on my mate's lips and I was overcome by a startling sensation.
Lust.
My lips parted and Jasper's opalescent eyes darkened almost to black.
"Violet?" He whispered, huskily. "What are you doing?"
He was walking slowly towards me, cornering me against a wall. Part of me felt trapped, but part of me was incredibly turned on.
Jasper closed in on me, pinning my arms above my head. His breathing had become uneven, and his eyes impossibly darker.
"Violet..." he whispered, placing his forehead on mine. "I am sorry if I have hurt you."
Then he crushed his lips to mine, his arms pinning mine firmly onto the wall. My heart jumped into my stomach and my hormones were flying everywhere. Electrical currents ran through me everywhere where his skin touched mine. My knees became weak, and soon the only thing holding me up were my own pinned arms.
He bit into my bottom lip, gave me one more heated, brain-numbing kiss, and then took a step back, resting his head on my forehead as we both fought to get our breaths back.
"Wow," I murmured breathily.
"Wow indeed," Jasper responded. Then I heard him smile. "We should talk more often."
I nodded my head in light-headed agreement, letting out a quiet giggle.
"I meant it, you know." Jasper murmured softly. Was this person really capable of cold-blooded murder? "When I said sorry for hurting you. I would never intentionally do anything to cause you harm. Please don't be afraid of me."
I leaned back slightly, pursing my lips. "I'm not scared of you, babe."
His eyes widened. "Not the you that you are with me, anyway."
Relief filled his gaze. Then, strangely, his eyes danced with amusement.
"Babe. I think I like that."
I gave him an affectionate smile. "You should try to earn my endearing terms more often."
My mate smiled, his dimples flashing. He took a step closer. My heart started to race.
"And how exactly do I do that, fair lady?"
I stepped onto my tiptoes and planted a quick kiss on his lips, stepping away before he could pull me back for more. His growl was filled with desire.
"Well you could start by telling me where I am."
Jasper responded immediately. "You are in my village. In my house, actually."
"Oh." I nodded slowly. "Why?"
My mate shifted uncomfortably, and I placed my hands on my hips.
"Your brother," he said after a few moments.
My brow furrowed in confusion. "Jon? What about him?"
Jasper bit his lip and ran a hand through his dark, lustrous hair.
"He's, uh, with the pack's doctor in the Clinic."
I took a deep breath in and Jasper regarded me nervously. For some reason, I couldn't bring myself to be angry. Instead, I ran a hand through my own hair and looked patiently at my mate.
"Lead the way."
