Violet's POV"So, have you thought of a plan yet?" I asked Jon, chewing reluctantly on the poor squirrel which had been perished for our selfish hunger.
We had stopped running at sundown and Jon had made a fire, which I was extremely grateful for. The night was cold, even with my wolf's high body temperature. Again, Jon had let me use the blanket and it was wrapped securely around my shoulders, providing a little extra warmth.
"What's wrong with not having a plan?" He raised a brow, looking ridiculous. "I thought you liked being spontaneous."
"I do, but this isn't spontaneous. This is just reckless!"
Jon took another bite, unphased by my frustration. "Violet, chill. We do have a plan. We keep on running and stay alive."
I scoffed at him. "Be serious! We can't just stay out in the open forever. It's cold, and there's only so many squirrels I can eat before I start to lose my humanity."
Jon snorted, rolling his eyes at me. "Where's your sense of adventure?"
"Where's your brains?" I shot back, seeing him smirk.
"Touché, sis. Touché."
Then he yawned and shock filled me as I realised that he hadn't slept since we had escaped. I felt guilty for being so harsh towards him.
"Jon, do you trust me?"
My brother stared at me like it was the dumbest question ever. "Yes. Of course I do."
"Then tonight, you're sleeping."
He looked as if he was about to object, so I quickly continued.
"You look about one hundred years old and let me just tell you that it's not a good look. Plus, if you're not well rested, then you won't be able to protect me properly." He bit his lip, and I knew I'd found his sore spot.
"But-"
"Aren't you listening? I just told you not to argue."
"Vi-"
I threw my hands up in frustration. "Give up, Jon. I'm not backing down.
His eyes widened. "I was just going to say thank you." Then he smiled, his eyes shining. "Your will is strong, Vi. I'm proud of you."
He pulled me into a bear hug, squeezing me until I slapped him on the back, short of breath. Grinning, he pulled away, planting a sloppy kiss on my cheek. I wiped it away and handed him the blanket and the pillow.
"Sweet dreams," I said as he lay down, but I swear he was out before he could even reply.
Smiling, I walked a few steps towards him. Man, he was completely gone, snoring like there was no tomorrow.
Now that he was asleep, I could finally acknowledge the presence I had sensed earlier. I knew the presence, and I followed my instincts to the tree-line about twenty-five feet from where Jon slept. Before long, I was stood in front of the black wolf from earlier, struck again by its grandeur.
"Are you stalking me?" I purred, teasingly. The wolf began to shake, and then it changed into six foot five worth of sexy, muscled man.
My eyes explored his body for a long moment before coming to rest on his smirking face.
"You could say that," he said, and his voice awakened something deep inside me. I stepped closer to him, unable to look away from his perfectly crafted body.
"My eyes are up here, Princess."
I stepped even closer, giving him my own smug smirk. "I know. Just thought it wouldn't be fair unless I returned the favour."
