So, I posted this first on my Tumblr.

You were tapping your fingers against the table while still seeing the clock. Every minute that passed was endless for you. They were supposed to be back by now. They promised you it was going to be the best birthday of your life.

However, after everything you had planned, there was an emergency mission. You were about to go shopping when you got the notification, but you had not been required to.

You got up right away when you heard the Quinjet coming and threw yourself into Steve's arms as soon as you saw him.

"It took you a long time," you complained.

"It was a little more complicated than we thought."

"No hug for me too?" Brock also claimed to come down from the Quinjet and see you and Steve.

You were eating the cake they bought you when they were returning from the mission to celebrate.

"So, what was the mission?" You questioned

"Catch a cat," Brock replied.

"What!? Did that take you that long? " Your voice sounded skeptical; no one might have called the Avengers for that.

"It wasn't a normal cat... tentacles were coming out of her mouth..."

You giggled when you heard Brock's explanation. You weren't sure whether to believe them or not. It sounded too funny.

"Tomorrow we'll take you shopping."

Tomorrow's not my birthday, "you interrupted Steve.

"But we want to make up for your day, although if you don't want to keep celebrating..." Brock said playfully.

"I think in that case, you two are taking a very long time to take off your clothes."

Maybe, in the end, your birthday wasn't ruined. They probably made up the mission thing and the cat to prepare you for another surprise, or so you wanted to think.
