During an akuma attack, the Agreste Manor was quiet. On one hand, there was Gabriel and Nathalie, out fighting what remained of the Miraculous users. Ladybug disappeared once more after the final Aubade attack, which had resulted in the mysterious disappearance of the vigilante and the two officers investigating the case, leaving Chat Noir to defend Paris on his own. This should have made akuma's easier, but the superhero grew accustomed to dealing with akuma's alone and figured out a way to de-akumatize the people and save the day all on his own. Marinette would be proud if she spent any of the akuma attack time actually watching the akuma. Instead, she spent these hours frantically running around the mansion, looking for Adrien, who was virtually impossible during any akuma attack.

Marinette was currently doing just that as the attack came to a close. She hardly noticed the quiet from outside as she slid into Adrien's room to triple check he wasn't in there, only to see the bathroom door slide open.

Adrien brightened at seeing her "Oh, hey Marinette!" Marinette looked between him and the bathroom, where she had checked multiple times through out the hour. "Sorry, you were looking for me again weren't you" he rubbed the back of his neck nervously "I was wandering around the house looking for my father, I didn't even realize"

Marinette sighed "A-alright, alright, j-just try and find m-me next time. Your dad's going to m-murder me if he hears that I left you alone during an akuma attack" Marinette moved to the door, but fiddled with her bracelet nervously before darting her eyes back to Adrien. He had been looking for his father, right? So had he found Hawkmoth and Mayura? Or worse, had he found Mrs. Agreste? "You- uh, did you find your father? I was looking for him and Nathalie as well"

Adrien blinked and laughed at himself "No, I, uh, I didn't really look too hard"

Marinette nearly collapsed in relief "Okay, okay. Just stay close next time, akuma's have gotten messier lately and your father would kill me if you got hurt"

Adrien laughs. Since Marinette's new internship, the two had gotten closer. Marinette still stuttered around her crush, and Adrien still considered her nothing but a friend. But that was fine for the moment. Marinette loved her friendship with Adrien, and she loved seeing him happy. The two of them had only had a few deep talks between late night multiplayer games (Marinette still went back to the bakery after seven, but they would spend hours over the phone playing games), but from what Marinette heard, Adrien seemed lonely. Her arrival at the mansion had been new and exciting, and he admitted that he loved that he finally had a close friend he didn't have to plan a schedule around. He also talked about his mom, and he really seemed to love her. He missed her, and he got a little sad whenever she was mentioned, as if every memory about her was overwhelming and bittersweet.

These conversations only made Marinette more sure of what she had to do. They had the ladybug miraculous, so they only needed one more step. And in the past few weeks, it had become more than Adrien. Marinette saw the same sadness in Gabriel's eyes when he glanced at Emilie's painting, and she saw the way Nathalie seemed just as loyal to Emilie as she was Gabriel. After a few talks with the assistant, she admitted that the two had been best friends before Emilie died (it was kind of awkward to think about, considering the fact that Nathalie was desperately in love with Gabriel, and the two were trying to bring said designer's wife back from the dead).

Still, Marinette had grown close to the family. She wished for the day when all of them- Adrien, Nathalie, Emilie, Gabriel and her could relax and enjoy Paris together. Even if Adrien never fell in love with her, that would be okay, because he would be happy, and she could find happiness.

A violent cough and a thump came from downstairs, and both Marinette and Adrien made eye-contact. Nathalie's dizzy spells and coughs had gotten worse, a large fog of deja vu and worry falling over the Agreste household. Adrien began to move towards his fathers office, but Marinette stopped him.

"A-Adrien, she's gonna be okay. Your fathers taking good care of her, even though it's supposed to be the other way around" her joke fell flat at the sight of Adriens desperate expression.

"I can't lose her too, Marinette'' he whispered, glancing towards his fathers door and fiddling with his ring. Marinette assumed it had been a possession of his mothers and she had never seen him without it.

"You won't" she responded, "I promise, everythings will be alright. She just needs a little space. And a vacation, probably". This time Adrien chuckled, and the blunette was able to coax him back upstairs for the rest of the afternoon.

"I'm calling this" Marinette started, referencing the time right before she left for her own home, but right after Adrien had gone to his bedroom for the night. "'What We All Fucked Up In Doing Today'"

Nathalie resisted a sharp remark about Marinette's language, and raised her eyebrow. Gabriel rolled his eyes and huffed.

Marinette ignored the both of them, continuing "Gabriel, you're still not having dinner with Adrien. I told you that two meals a day is the minimum for spending time with your son. And Nathalie, why the fuck did you use the peacock miraculous today? It was a Mr. Pigeon attack, not anything we expected to win. You keep getting sicker and sicker, and at this rate it'll only be a few months until-" she stopped herself, inhaling and rubbing her temples. The air in the room had gotten tense, and both adults refused to meet her eyes.

"Just be more careful, please? I know you want to help, I want to help too, but we need to be patient. Save your power for bigger battles. And your worrying Adrien, so just try to help me find him throughout akuma attacks"

Nathalie sighed and nodded, so Marinette perked up once more, continuing to list off everything the team had done wrong during the latest akuma attacks.

Marinette expected a lot of things, but she hadn't expected this. Nathalie had taken her advice and stayed behind, helping Marinette by running around the mansion (and checking the bathrooms! Multiple times!) to try and find Adrien. The current Akuma attack was playing on the television because Nathalie was paranoid and wanted to make sure Gabriel was alright. Oh yeah, Gabriel had left the mansion for this attack. It had been a stupid move, and Marinette probably should have seen it as a red flag, but she had been busy trying to find Adrien. When it eventually came up that the akuma had malfunctioned and was now trying to steal Hawkmoths miraculous (with Chat Noir watching comically in the background, trying to figure out who he should help), Nathalie and her had made eye contact before the assistant moved to transform, only for her to double over coughing.

Marinette moved towards Nathalie glancing nervously at the screen where Hawkmoth was being cornered onto the edge of the Eiffel Tower. The assistant collapsed, coughing and leaning into the couch. Gabriel was almost at the corner of the monument. In a blur of instinct, Marinette moved to take the brooch from Nathalie's chest, and cried out the words she had heard the assistant use so many times.

"Duusu! Feathers, fly!"
