A/N Hello! Sorry this chapter was one week late, after everything on the news last week I genuinely felt so overwhelmed and didn't feel like posting anything. Anyways, its a full moon today and Beltane on Saturday so I'm still very busy, but I got this out yesterday! It's a little filter but its also kind of setting some huge stuff up so... please enjoy <3
It was cold. She opens her eyes and growls. This is hardly as spacey as she'd like. Things hadn't been according to plan, and she really couldn't do anything until she was let out. Everything had been going so well. Master Fu had gotten out of the way, and surely he would be back once the illusion magic wore off and the rest of the temple helped him regain his memories, but that wouldn't be for a while. But it wouldn't take super long, and this sure put a dent in her plans. No matter, she'd figure something out. She always had and the rest were counting on her. This plan had been formed since the beginning of time, and she was not going to let it fail because of a silly bump.

It had become a norm to ride to school with Adrien. On long nights before a release or photoshoot, when Marinette would work overtime, Nathalie or the Gorilla wouldn't mind either letting her stay the night in a guest room, or coming by the bakery shaking her awake. And so, car rides were much more cheerful, with chatter in the back about school or video games and the occasional schedule being read aloud by Nathalie. Today though, the car was dead quiet except for the occasional clearing of a throat. Gabriel and Marinette had insisted Nathalie stay behind for the day and the Gorilla would drive them, but she waved them off and said it was just a cold and she wouldn't let a small thing like that leave her incapable.
Adrien had been silent since he found the three of them in the living room.
Before leaving, Marinette had swiped the peacock miraculous from Emily's portrait and tucked it onto her jacket. Even if it didn't come in handy with any akumatizations today, she wanted to at least get to know the kwami. The blunette had scolded Gabriel too many times for the way he treated Nooroo, and she refused to let any other kwami get mishandled.
After twenty minutes of silent driving, Nathalie bid them both goodbye, reminding Adrien of a photoshoot taking place after school and driving off.
"A-Adrien...?" Marinette started softly, reaching to lay a hand on his shoulder. He sighed, clutching his bag tighter and leaning closer into his friend. He tried to open his mouth to say something, but his eyes were already brimming with tears and Marinette moved to hug him. "It's okay, she's going to be okay, I promise. Please, just trust me"
After a second, Adrien nods into her shoulder and removes himself from the hug. "Thanks Marinette, I, um, I needed that" he flushes a little and Marinette feels her own insides scramble like eggs. Or maybe that's just Duusu from inside her purse.
"Oh! Erm, no problem. I mean, you're my friend! Not that I wouldn't comfort you if you weren't my friend! But, uh, we're friends! And I really like you! Not in a weird way- oh my god-"
She stuffs her head in her hands, her ears going nuclear, and Adrien laughs. God, she really thought she had gotten this stuttering thing under control. "I know what you mean, it's okay" Adrien chuckles "Let's head to class"
Marinette nods and exhales, following him into the building.

"Pssst! Heyyyyyy~ Azuuraaa!!" Marinette nearly jumps five feet in the air, coughing as attention is drawn to her. "Duusu, you can't call me that'' she hisses as the class goes back to its regular chatter. The kwami's expression goes from playful to downright depressed, moving to sulk in the bottom of Marinette's bag. "N-No, Duusu, it's okay, I swear, just don't do it again"
