Chapter Four

"We need to speed this up" Marinette said, slamming an empty notebook onto Gabriel's desk. A week or so had passed since Azura took Mayura's place, and akuma's had been slow. Marinette hadn't even gotten the chance to try out the sentimonsters or her new weapons, though as she spent more and more time dealing with a nearly bed-ridden Nathalie, the excitement for her new powers waned. "These last few attacks have been fucking bullshit, and if we really want to capture Chat Noir's miraculous, you know what we need to do"

"I'm not letting you-" Gabriel started, wrapping a defensive hand around the peacock brooch.

"I'm not an idiot, and I'm not talking about that" Marinette snapped, diverting her gaze to the notebook. She picked up a pen and began to draw. "We have every miraculous" the blunette begins "I know how Chat Noir works and right about now he's thinking that he's just about to lose. With a new and healthy peacock user, Hawk Moth, the sentimonsters and the akuma's, if we have another huge akuma raid like the one last year, add senti-monsters and go to battle Chat himself, he wouldn't stand a chance"

"But we can't do that" Nathalie reminds her "Who knows how much that would take out of you. You might drop dead the second you detransform"

"But Chat doesn't know that" Marinette grins "And either way, we're not going to do another raid. But it's what Chat expects, and he thinks we can pull that on him whenever. So we use that. He needs more miraculous', and we have kwami's to spare with the guardian box. Even if he can't work with Ladybug to protect Paris, he can at least have Carapace, or Rena Rouge or Queen Bee to help him. Before everything, his job is to protect Paris, and he can't do that by himself"

"So, what? We just give him the miraculous'? I don't see what your getting at"

"It won't matter if he gets the miraculous' or not. We hand them out to him on a silver platter and then steal his ring. It's pretty simple"

Gabriel scoffs, but he looks intrigued. "How would we even get him to believe it's not a trick? A note from Ladybug? Saying that she can't be there right now but here's the location of every single most powerful supernatural jewelry?"

"No, he's smart and he knows Ladybug wouldn't just leave him a note after not talking to him for weeks. He'd know it's a trick. He knows when everythings a trick, so we need to come to him as honestly as possible"

"What, so just tell him that we have the box and we want his ring for it? Doesn't seem like the way to go to me" Gabriel started, but Nathalie interrupted him.

"No, no, I get what you're saying Miss Dupain" she hums "And yes, but not exactly, Mr. Agreste. We need to have such a mix of blatant lies and obvious truths that he can't tell which is which. He knows we want his ring, but he also knows what else we want"

Marinette's eyes narrow, before widening in realization "And he doesn't know we already have it"

Gabriel seems to understand now, and he's pacing the room, hiding his excitement behind a contemplative face. "This is it. We can end, here, right now"

Nathalie shakes her head "No, we need a bit of time. To set a date, find a place, not something public but not something predictable where Chat can track the buyer"

Marinette grins "Black market time bitches"

Finding the place wasn't actually as hard as anyone anticipated. Aubade had connections to the black market, so, ignoring Nathalie and Gabriel's protest, Marinette went out and found a huge abandoned warehouse. It was decently far from Paris, only an hour or two from Djon. So the three of them faked a business trip (Marinette a designing contest Nathalie would drop her off at on the way to the fake inspiration search in Italy) to visit the place and set it up.
