The Chosen

Chapter 7

After what felt like a million years, it's finally here...Friday, aka dance day!! To top everything off, classes even got cancelled so everyone has time to shop for their outfits. Busses came to pick us up and drop off at a mall for a couple of hours.
Me, Sage, Molly, and Esmeray shopped together at a small boutique called Wendy's Dresses. As soon as we enter, we all run to different sections of the store. Molly, Sage, and Esmeray immediately find an outfit they like. Molly picks out a short black dress with puffy sleeves and ruffles leading down until it flared out on her thighs, and black heels to match. Sage picks a green outfit. Sage to be exact. So obviously it was meant to be. It was a stunning flowy dress with small flower designs on it. She picks out sparkly white heels to go with her dress. Mere chooses an icy blue colored, lace two piece set. Dresses weren't her thing as she's said. The tight skirt ended just below her bottom and a corset top, with the adjustable tie, perfectly hugging her curves. For shoes she picks out silver fairy like heels that tied around her ankles. They both looked beautiful. Lucky them. I'm picky, and I wanted Haydn to be blown away when he sees me, of course.
They all helped me shop, and finally, after a hour, we find one. It's perfect. It was a tight, long sleeve, blood red dress, with sheer sleeves. The detail was beautiful and I knew I had to have it. For shoes, I chose plain black platforms.
We arrived back at the academy with around 3 hours until the dance starts. I did everyone's hair. For Molly, I straightened and clipped back her front hairs. I do a half up half down style, braiding the hair that was in the pony, for Sage. I curled Esmeray's layered hair and braided two small strands within the hair. I pull my hair back into a loose, low pony, and the strands that didn't make it, I curled.
After hair, we start on our makeup. I put a sparkly gold eyeshadow on my eyelid, with red lipstick. Molly does a natural, neutral brown eyeshadow with clear lipgloss. Esmeray puts on sparkly silver eyeshadow all around her eyes, with clear lipgloss like Molly. And Sage, like her name and dress, puts on Sage colored eyeshadow with sparkly pink lipgloss. We were ready.
We start making our way to the dance. Music is echoing throughout the academy walls.
"Shit I forgot my necklace. You guys go on without me, I'll be right there" Esmeray says feeling her collarbone.
The room that the dance was being held in was amazing. Round tables filled half of the room, while the other half is filled with people already dancing. I scan the room for my date. Where is he? All of a sudden I hear his voice.
"Amethyst" he's behind me.
I turn and he smiles. He's wearing a black outfit. Black dress pants and a black, long sleeve, button up, collared shirt. He even had black shoes to match. He's even hotter with a suit on.
"You clean up nice" I say as he walks over, Cade following him.
"Wow" he says staring at me. "You look beautiful" I can see his eyes scanning my body. I don't mind it.
"Where's Mere?" Cade questions.
"Oh, she forgot something back in the dorm. She'll be here."
The group of us stand in a circle for a little bit, talking. That's when I notice Esmeray. She sees us and comes over. I could tell she was uncomfortable in her heels as she stumbled a couple times when making her way over. I turn to my left side, where I see Cade staring at Tayla. He was in awe.
"I hope Cade mans up and asks Mere to dance" I whisper to Haydn.
"You see him too? He's looking at Tayla like a lost puppy. Poor boys in love." He says speaking up just for Cade to hear.
"Shut it" Cade says giving us a look. We laugh.
Once she gets to us, we head to the tables. Cade and Esmeray instantly make their way to the food. By now, everyone is here. The room is packed with people dancing, eating, and talking.
"Wanna dance" Haydn asks me, holding out a hand.
"Why yes, I would" I say clearly blushing.
We walk out to the dance floor and start dancing. The music is fast tempo, so everyone is mushed together jumping up and down. From a distance I spot Sage talking to Jace. Good for her. I also see Clara and her friends eyeballing Haydn and I, so I naturally flip her off. As time goes on, I feel Hayden start to wrap his arms around my lower waist. His head is right by my ear, and I can feel him breathing on my ear. It sends tingles throughout my body. The music begins to slow down. The mush disappears and couples are now dancing together. Haydn turns me around to face him, takes my hands, and puts them over his shoulders. He grabs and pulls me close to him so there is no space in between.
"You liking it here so far?" He asks me.
"Im starting to now"
"Is that so?" He says, a smile emerging on his face.
"Mhm" His grip on my waist gets tighter.
"Your fighting technique needs some work though"
"Okay you can just piss off" I say turning my head away from him. I notice Mere and Cade both watching us, making stupid hand motions.
He puts his hand on my cheek and faces me back towards him, running his thumb across the side of my lips. Moving in closer I'm sure we will kiss, until...
*SIRENS BLARING*
"What's going on?" I say trying not to freak out.
"Common Amethyst, just follow me" Haydn says, looking around for a moment, then grabbing my hand and pulling me with him.
"Haydn, what is going on right now? What are these noises? What's happening?!" I'm freaking out.
"I'll explain everything later. But first, you just need to start with me?"
"What about my friends? Esmeray?"
"Cade will take care of her"
We follow the crowd of people heading down a hall, then going down stairs leading to some kind of basement thing. I didn't even know the academy had an underground part to it. Once we get downstairs, a large circular metal door is hauled open by the people in front. Still holding his hand, Haydn leads me into a massive room filled with hundreds of beds. What is this place? What's it for? I still don't even know what's happening. Haydn and I make our way to a vacant bed.
"Haydn can you tell me what the fuck is going on?"
"We're under attack" he says staring at me dead in the eye. I could tell he was worried.
"Attack? By who? Who would attack us!?"
"Trenchers"
"What the hell are Trenchers!?"
"What we're trained to fight against"
My mind is racing a million miles an hour. I have so many questions, but I couldn't open my mouth to ask them. I hear someone gasp in relief.
"Oh thank God" it's Mere. Cade right behind her.
She hugs me tight. "Are you okay? Are you hurt at all?"
"I'm fine" I say disbelievingly.
"We're safe here Amethyst" Cade says trying to reassure me.
"How are you guys so calm with what's going on?!"
"We were all told about this before you got here" she says.
"And you just accept it?!" I'm losing my mind.
"What else can we do. It's what we're here for. Soon we're gonna have to fight them ourselves."
My head is banging and my ears are ringing. I felt nauseous. The room around me begins spinning. I try to get my balance but end up tripping, missing the bed completely. Haydn quickly catches me and lays me onto a bed. My eyes flutter for a couple seconds before shutting, leaving me to be in the pitch black.
