The inside of the monolith, did not disappoint Amon, though it wasn't what he was expecting.
Instead of a natural serene place, with primitive huts and flourishing flora, it was almost the direct opposite.
When Amon, had first entered the monolith, he'd been guided by one of the outposts, and led to a small entrance that eventually opened to an earthen tunnel. After that though, was where things got... techy.
The tunnel had soon changed from it's earthen dirt walls to a smooth concrete like walls that had silver railings. The ceiling was also had build in led lights. That was not the end though, as the tunnel progressed, the tech got more advanced, and the artwork's started.
Fluorescent blue light embedded directly into the ceiling, smooth steel walls, painted earthen colors, filled with Aboriginal artworks- from raging rivers, to minute lizards. The contrast between the technology and art, created a strange yet, peaceful atmosphere that soothed anyone present.
"Motherf*cking hell, why am I, the future village chief being sent to deal with this peasant?" That very atmosphere soon shattered. The outpost that was escorting him, had turned out to be a high ranking member of the tribe. He had normal basic clothes. A straw-woven hat, with khaki shorts and t-shirt. Amon estimated he was around the same age as him, after all they were the same height.
He had dark tanned skin, bright eyes, and a somewhat wide nose. But the thing Amon found interesting about him, was his aura, it was orange-gold. He had a spear strapped around his back. Much of the aura was also focused on his spear, that alone made Amon realize that the outpost was a proficient Nen user.
"Hey! Are you the new hunter tourist dude." Amon's guide asked.
Amon nodded. "What's your name." Amon asked, while curiously looking over at the boy while they walked in the tunnel.
"Call me Esteemed Senior." He responded.
Amon's face turned blank. "No, really, just tell me."
'Esteemed Senior' stopped and turned to stare at Amon.
"Why does it matter anyway, you will be gone after you visit this 'tourist spot', while I'll be stuck here for the rest of my life," he said, looking miffed, though through the tone of his voice, he clearly was just playing around.
"Now that's made me even more interested, why can't you leave?" Amon asked again.
'Esteemed Senior' pretended to be aggrieved. "*sigh*My name is Waru."
Amon smiled briefly hearing that. 'Seems like he doesn't want to tell his backstory.'
"Nice to meet you Waru, I'm Amon, and how long is it going to take to get to the city. You should really add in some cars or something."
"Cars...hehe, sorry I forgot about them." Waru replied while walking towards the painting on the walls. After a soft click, a door opened, and inside a small 4-wheel buggy was inside.
Amon's face dropped. 'I should really be using my En all around me, even in walls.' He thought to himself.
"We have these buggies situated in the tunnel after a certain distance, I've never been a guide before, so I forgot, sorry." Waru said scratching his head.
"It's fine, but if you are really sorry, tell me why you can't leave." Amon replied while smirking.
Waru sat on the front driver seat of the small-4 wheeler that had two seats. He gestured for Amon to sit. Then after starting the engine, Waru solemnly started reciting.
"Dihydrogen monoxide. Soil. Weak plasma. Oxygen. My grandfather used to tell me stories about the old days, a time of peace when the Icon-"
Waru stopped his story, after noticing Amon's hand on his shoulder, he turned around to see black lines across Amon's face.
"...Icon kept balance- ah! Okok, I'll stop haha." Waru finished, as soon as he realised Amon's hand on his shoulder had turned into a death grip. Amon soon relaxed his grip.
Throughout the trip, the only thing that could be heard was the hum of the engine.
"Soo000..." Waru awkwardly said.
"Hmm?" Amon asked.
"What made you come here?"
"Just some interesting stories from this place." Amon replied.
"Like what?" Waru asked.
"Well, one of the stories was about a sulky boy named Waru-"
"PLEASE, for real this time." Waru pleaded while staring at Amon with a grim face.
"Okay... if you don't want to listen to it, it was interesting. Anyway, the other story is about your people formidable battle prowess, especially their weapons." Amon said with a thin smile.
The moment these words left Amon's mouth, the buggy came to an abrupt stop.
Waru's golden warm aura immediately turned to dark crimson. Amon was faintly surprised, such an abrupt change in aura was rarely scene. Even in the anime, Gon's aura only turned dark after he emotionally broken down past his limit. That had ended with Gon being seriously injured.
While Waru, he seemed to be able to use and control this type of negative aura easily. Almost as if, his earlier golden was just a façade.
"If you covet the weapons, please leave." Waru quietly said while facing away from Amon. Though he couldn't see Waru's face, Amon could tell through Waru's aura, that Waru was being dead serious.
"No I don't really care about the weapons, I just thought they seemed cool." Amon replied.
Waru's aura returned to normal.
"That's good! Otherwise I'd have to kill you! That would be sad!" He said cheerfully while glancing back from his front seat.
Amon grinned back. "Same I didn't want to kill you in a fight either!"
"Hahahaha!" They both erupted in laughter.
"Anyways, we have arrived." Waru abruptly said.
*pheeeeeeoooo* Amon whistled as he observed the environment.
