Chapter 9

Nino

"Uhm is that so? I'll just treat Kaguya then."

He does have an appointment huh.
"A friend?"

"Yeah, a friend. Yesterday was her birthday but tomorrow's the celebration"

"Oh, okay." he smiled.

"Wait! when you say you have an appointment, is this for a job? or something else? if you don't want to answer then it's fine."

Nino! Hold yourself, okay? Gosh!

"I'm meeting up with a friend and we will eat lunch. I expect that she will do shopping, so I'll be her escort"

"What is she? A princess?!" Huh! As if!

"Yup, she's a princess. I think you already saw her at the bakery, the girl with orange hair remember?"

That clingy girl? And what?! A princess?! He must be kidding me.

"She's a princess?! No wonder she's really beautiful and you're so lucky to be in a relationship with a princess"

"Hahahahahaha I knew you would say that. Well, you're wrong and we are not dating."

"Elise is just a friend to me and she wouldn't love a lowlife man like me"

I'm speechless. Still in the process of what he's saying, though.

"Well, here's a short story. I met her 3 years ago, a princess who loves anime. She doesn't care about the throne, she just wants to be a cosplayer and I find it funny" then he laughed.

"Yes, me too. I find it ridiculous" She's different huh.

"She ran away and lived here in Japan" he continues.

"She wants to live a normal life, so normal that she eats ramen every day. Her mother, the queen, gave her enough money to live a decent life in Japan yet she donated it all to an orphanage. The thing is, Elise wants to be responsible for all things she does in her life without the money of her parents. She said that it's enough that they gave her tickets to Japan but after that, she will play the game of life. At first, she doesn't know how to speak Japanese, so it's hard for her to even start"

Well, she's brave and I admired her.

"Until she saw our post that we are looking for a janitress. She called the management regarding her application. Then, I saw her in the office for an interview, no one speaks English except me so I became her interviewer. I even pretend that I'm a terror and she cried hahaha. I'm guilty and I don't know how to stop her from crying, so I told her that she got the job."

While he's telling me their story, I suddenly feel my heart is aching. This is nothing.

"Wow, she's willing to start from scratch" I stared at him.

"Yes, and I'm so lame. I know the first time I saw her that she's a nice person. We became really close then she told me everything about her. But her mommy, Queen Dorothy also discovered that she works as a maid for a whole year so she explains it to her"

"After explaining, she's back to her normal life but still living in Japan being a cosplayer and a model hahahaha"

"She is living in a nice big mansion, that's where I live too"
I don't want to rent anymore and living in her mansion is  free, so i took the opportunity but i need to be her bodyguard whenever she wants to go outside"

"What?" I can't believe it!

"And both of us don't usually go outside to socialize, that's why she's my bestie"

He's not the type to have a girl best friend though. (rolled eyes)

"A girl and a boy cannot be friends. I'm sure she has feelings for you or maybe she just needs some time to confess" I poke him with that statement.

This is irritating.

"That won't happen. She loves anime guys more than a real person" he replied defending her.

How sure is he?!

"Okay, since we are talking about love. Have you been in love or experience confessing to someone you like?" He looked directly at my eyes.

He is trying to change the topic and now he is putting me on the hot seat.

I never expected that question and I don't want him to know that I was madly in love before.

Come on Nino! Think how you can divert his attention!

I was roaming my eyes around the living room when I saw the wall clock. It's 8:30 pm already.

"Hey uhm, it's 8:30 already and it's my shower time. You can go home now and thank you for the ride"

Yes! I'm saved!

"Uhm, yeah. I better go home now and thank you so much for the ramen"

"You're welcome."

Next day

I woke up and checked my phone. I got a text message from Kaguya.

"Nino, I'm outside your apartment" She was waiting for two minutes!

So I rushed to the bathroom and took a shower. After I'm done I go down to see Kaguya.

I wore a yellow floral retro court puff sleeve dress and for Kaguya, she wore a casual stripe dress that suits her.

Then we head on to watch movies. While walking, she bought pancakes and pineapple juice. her face is showing an overflowing joy.

We live in the city, so lots of delicious food are here and fashion too. There are lots of customers of course. Before heading to the mall, Kaguya had a brilliant idea that she wants to go to the carnival. It is near so we made a decision.

First, we checked the Ferris wheel. Even though I'm brave and all, I still hate it.

Then after that, she grabs me to the horror room, one of the things I also hate. Argh!

She was jumping and her eyes were twinkling, so I can't say no to that and besides, it's her birthday, so I agreed.

The place is a little dark, it's like a tunnel. The goal is to cross without having a heart attack, and I'm sure there's a lot of creepy-looking monsters. Hope I won't die here, I still want to be married.

"Hey, Nino are you alright? I think your about to shit in your pants"

"Hey, I'm fine! This is nothing!" while clapping to shake off a little cowardness.

"It's time, Nino! Let's go! hahahahaha"

"I hate you, Kaguya"

And we are entering the tunnel of doom...
