summary: set before "welcome to the family" and "welcome home", this story sets out the story for dream and (Y/N)'s hatred for one another.

the ending for this is what leads into "welcome to the family". just some context!

A/N: okay so my friend gave me a poggers idea line that i love so i'm definitely using it. buckle up loves, this is gonna be one hell of a ride! :)

(Y/N)'s pov

it felt odd to be the partner of a literal god. god in the sense that my boyfriend was able to do whatever he wanted in this world and get away with it almost every single fucking time.

i had gotten home, the birch floor creaking slightly every time i took a step. i looked at the manberg flags that covered my windows, they were a gift from president schlatt, everybody received them and were ordered to put them up somewhere in their home.

i hated looking out my windows so that's where the banners went. i set on fixing my armour and tools, feeling the chills even from being stood in dark blue jeans, combat boots, a black turtleneck and a (F/C) hoodie. it was still cold.

"hello, anybody home?" i heard the calm voice of dream fill my home. i stepped out of the back room and rushed straight to the door, a wide smile playing on my lips. there stood dream, leaning against the doorframe, his mask sitting over his face. he took a look around, closed the door and stepped over, slipping his mask off. his bright green eyes looked into my eyes, searching for something.

"hey big man-"

"don't call me that."

"okay, d money-"

"don't call me that either."

"ugh fine, hey baby." i sighed and rolled my eyes playfully. his laugh was like music to my ears.

"that's more like it~" he hummed and stroked my hair, gently pressing a small kiss to my forehead. "feeling alright today? i saw you arguing with schlatt earlier, what was all that about?"

i sighed and melted into his arms. "all because i didn't want to put the stupid fucking banners up. it's stupid!" all dream could do was laugh and slowly twirl me around, a loving look in his eyes.

"you shouldn't need to worry about the banners any longer sweetheart, everything will be sorted in a few days. just hold on." his words made me smile and nod, slowly dancing with him.

it was moments like these that i would treasure no matter what.

a few days later

the fights were in full swing. naturally, i was trying to stay on neutral grounds. wilbur was my best friend and i wanted to support him. however, schlatt and i were also on alright terms. i had known him for quite a while. i stood along the sidelines with dream, holding my diamond sword tightly. dream had gifted me it a while back. the handle had a small green ribbon wrapped around it with little silver details decorating it. my half diamond and netherite armour was fixed completely. it felt strange to have netherite boots and a helmet and then leggings and chestplate be diamond. not sure why but it felt weird.
