Phantom Spy

Chapter Three

It had been a week since the death of Kate’s parents and two days after their funeral and she was still grieving alone at home which was now her house since her ‘parents’ left all the property under her name and she having turned eighteen recently she was able to claim everything as stipulated by their will. With no other family or relatives, she took over everything they owned which meant she automatically became rich for the rest of her life and this came as a shock to her since she didn’t know that spies and agents were paid seven figure salaries a month and at times as commission for completing missions.

After all the grieving she had done she decided to pick herself up and continue with her life as she knew that it was what both her parents would have wanted. she first started off by cleaning the house even though it wasn’t much to do since Liv had visited everyday since the tragic day and she’d helped with the cooking and cleaning since Kate wasn’t in the right state of mind to even consider doing those things despite the fact that she is a clean freak.Kate had told Liv that her parent swere victims of a house robbery gone wrong as she had been told by Stanley. After doing all the available chores she sat and thought of something to occupy her mind and as she was about to give up she remembered the flash drive and decided it was time to check it out. She hadn’t told anyone about it even Liv or the man who was trusted by both her parents, Stanley. She felt that she was supposed to see the info in the drive alone without anyone except HER, that her mom had told her about before she died.

She got up from the couch and went to her room and retrieved the drive from her hiding spot in her room and sat down in front of her study desk which was occupied by her laptop. She powered it and inserted the flash drive after logging in and opening the drive which contained a video which was named ‘watch first’ and several files which seemed to be documents.
She clicked on the video and when it began to play she let out a sob and felt her cheeks getting wet with her tears. On the screen sat her parents, Kayden and Theresa with smiles on their faces she could tell the video was a few years old when she was around thirteen.

She played the video after she had gained her composure. “Hey there Kate!” they both said. and Kayden continued, “if you found this drive it means you have turned eighteen or we’re…you know…dead…yeah. So anyways before anything else is said we want you to know that we love you a lot and we always will.” Kate paused the video and began to sob again and it took her a few minutes until she was able to continue watching. “Ok now to the serious stuff…make sure that you alone or with us when watching this or unless you have found Her if not please, please don’t continue this unless you are absolutely sure you’re alone.” Her mother now took over and continued. “ Okay so the things you are about to find out will some of the questions that you've been asking yourself for years now... so firstly, we aren’t your real parents, your real parents died when you were born in South Africa in 2000. Yes you were born in SA and not in the states and I’ll try to shorten this story whatever you don’t understand is in the files which are also in this flash drive with the video. So back in 1999 there was a couple,Katia and Kristof Rastova,they were of Bulgarian and Serbian descent, but they had become American citizens, they had tried having kids for over three years since they got married. After visiting different doctors they discovered that Katia couldn’t have children because her womb was damaged by an operation she had when she was a child and she didn’t even remember until the doctors told her about it. She and Kristof were shattered and they had lost hope until a month after the discovery, and as you may know back then tech wasn’t as good as it is now and such tragedies meant it was all over.

So when Katia met this doctor, doctor Antoniette a French doctor who had gone to SA for research purposes and they’d had a conversation which led to Katia telling her about her problem. Doctor Antoniette told her she could help. Katia told Kristof and they decided to meet with Sophie Antoniette who told them about her new project which had been successful once and with nothing to lose and no dime to be paid they decide to go ahead with the trial. Sophie told them that the trial was CIA related and that after the child was born he/she would first undergo some analysis and they would then be allowed to take the child but still visit Sophie’s lab every once in a while so she could check on the child’s progress.
