A hand clamped over her mouth and pulled her down, her backside hitting the rocks. She elbowed the culprit in the ribs, turning to glare in his direction after he yelped and removed his hand.
"Why'd you do that," Sirius whined, rubbing his chest.
"Put your hand on me one more time and I'll remove it!" Valentine threatened, and Sirius threw her an exasperated look.
"If you keep peeking over that stupid bush and talking, they're gonna find us!"
Valentine rolled her eyes, pressing herself tighter against the side of the building they hid against. The air was sweet and smelt of clovers, the faint melody of singing and crunch of leaves nearby.
This was the last Hogsmeade trip of the year, and Macey had proposed the brilliant idea of playing hide in go seek. So they had been told to pick a partner, and Sirius had practically ripped Valentine's arm out the socket in order to partner with her. James, of course, had sulked, not so discreetly flipping off his best mate for 'snagging his significant other' (exact words he had said). But then he'd chosen Peter, and Lily and Dorcas were partners, followed by Marlene and Macey.
Remus, unfortunately, was in the hospital wing, for today was a full moon. Sirius had attempted to stay, but Remus forced him to go have fun, making him promise to bring him back chocolate.
And now Sirius and Valentine were panting as they hid behind an array of several blossomed bushes, waiting for Marlene and Macey to find them. They'd already been hiding for over ten minutes, and Valentine was growing more than impatient.
"Sirius, I'm telling you, something is up."
"Shhhhh."
"If you could put your competitiveness aside for literally one minute-,"
"SHHHHH!"
"Sirius Black!" Valentine whisper shouted. "If you shush me one more time, I'm telling Remus."
Sirius rolled his eyes. "Remus would pick my side."
This made Valentine snort. "He most definitely would not."
Sirius pulled his eyebrows together, determined to win. "Then James wild pick my side."
"He most definitely would not," Valentine repeated through a grin. "Your friends like me better."
"Unless you're screwing Remus, I'm pretty sure he likes me better, as he told me as much last night when-,"
Valentine abruptly shot up and stood, dusting the dirt from her pants and stepping out from their hiding spot. Sirius hissed at her to come back, but she ignored him. The harsh sun caused a glare, and she squinted, looking around in speculation.
