Halfway through the journey, he looks at me and asks, "You know we never got to go on that date."

I hum response, "Rain check?" But then a thought strikes my head, "Angus, what is your job exactly?"

NOW

*Mac's POV*

"Angus, what is your job exactly?"

At that moment I was partially glad that she wasn't looking at me because I'm sure my face paled, "I told you, I work at a think tank?"

"What's it called?"

"Phoenix Foundation"

"Oh.."

Something was not going right. What did Murdoc tell her? "Why, is something wrong? I mean... I told you about my job before as well."

"Yes I know you did but that weird trench coat guy who kidnapped me kept saying that you were lying. Why was he saying that?" She was looking at me now, her eyes curious. My hands got clammy but I knew wiping it now would clearly indicate that I was lying. For working at a secret government organisation, I was clearly awful at hiding things. "What did you say?"

Her voice went a few octaves higher. Great now I'm talking my thoughts out.

"I didn't say anything."

"Well you muttered something." She did not sound too happy right now.

Should I tell her or should I not?

Finally after making up my mind I turned my car a 180' and started driving away from my house.

"Angus, where are we going?" She didn't look scared, or panicked, which meant that she trusted me and that was a good thing. But her face was contorted to confusion.

"Just give me some time, I'll explain everything."

After driving for 15mins we finally reached a small open ground, behind the LA public school (I'm pretty sure there is nothing like that but it's an AU world). Kids were screaming and playing around, making it easy to tone out the voice incase someone close by would try and be nosy. Getting out of the car I got to her side and opened the door for her, helping her out. Locking the car, I hold her hand again and walk her up to the bench. She remained quiet, not saying a word. Sitting down, I turn to face her, and take both her hands in mine, "You trust me right?"

She cocks her head to the side, still definitely confused but nods as a 'yes'.

"See, Jacey, the stuff that I'm about to tell you now, it's..umm.. you cannot share it with anyone, and trust me I cannot emphasize enough on the second part.

She still looks curiously at me, "You do know that I'm freaking out right now right?"

I smile at her, "I brought you here because, well with the kids screaming no one would overhear us. Jacey," here goes nothing and everything "I do work at Phoenix Foundation but it is not a think tank, the world knows it that way. It is actually a secret government organisation that only very few people know about. And that's because we go on those types of missions where, according to the UN rules or due to the tension between nations, the government cannot intervene. For example, Venezuela is not a very friendly place for Americans, and even worse for government agents, but my team had to go there on a mission to save an undercover government agent. I could've kept this whole thing a secret from you but I like you a lot, and when you died in my arms, I felt that my world had crumbled around me. And yes, the guy who kidnapped you, his name is Murdoc, he is a psycho killer and for some reason has a weird obsession with Pheonix, especially me."

After my big speech, I took a deep breath and looked her in the eye. Her eyes had widened to the size of golf balls. We stayed quiet for some time but I could take in the silence for only so long. "Jacey?" I call out to her but she was not responding, so I shook her, making her break out of her thoughts. She closed her mouth, which was open the whole while, sat up straighter and cleared her throat. She looked down to see our hands intertwined and pulled them away at once, which I did not take as a very good sign.

"Angus, this...its quite a lot to take in at once. You get that right?" This time I nodded, because my throat was drying up. I did not like her tone right now. "I don't want to scream and make a scene, but... I need some time to think. Can you take me home?" My heart felt weak. Is it weird that I would have preferred the screaming and making a scene to this silence? I nodded again and stood up, extending a hand out to her, hoping things weren't as ruined as I thought it was. She looked at it then at me and stood up on her own and started walking to my car. Shit. I followed her silently and we both got in and drove back. I stopped in front of her house, and without a word, she left my car and walked into her house. Putting the car in reverse, I backed out and making a turn on my driveway, I drove to Phoenix. I got one major blow now, time to get the second one from Matty.
