You sat in morning school assembly. As per usual, the schools band was playing as the crowd of students filtered in and sat down on the bleachers. You were gonna miss this place, it was your last year.

You sat down, surrounded by your friends and watched the school band. They were always so good. As you looked around you, you could see many of the girls staring at one particular member...

Jack Gilinsky.

More commonly known as the school's heart-throb, but also your best friend.

He sang into the microphone, accompanied by one of your other good friends, Jack J. You tapped your foot along with the song. This was one of your favorites. He saw you looking at him and smiled his cheeky grin that you secretly adored. It was the way his dimples, and his smile, and his eyebrows combined together to make this little smile that instantly made you happier.

He made you happier. That's just they way it is. Although you two were the closest of friends, you couldn't deny that you hadn't thought of what it would be like if you were together.

And like that, the song was finished.

Jack took a deep breath and held his microphone back up as the crowd erupted into applause.

"Thank you! Thank you all for being the best audience- as per usual. I promise me and Jack have a few more songs to play, but I'm sorry I just have a little something to say. I hope you all don't mind."

What a charmer, you thought. He truly captivated a crowd like no one else.

" Okay, well here goes nothing, I just can't stand to wait a second longer." He realised he was rambling and smiled to himself.

" 12 years ago I met this girl. She is funny and sweet and amazing, and we became really good friends - well, best friends."

You knew, and everyone else knew, he was talking about you. You wanted to look down to avoid the stares of the people sat infront, but you couldn't take your eyes off Jack. He turned in your direction and his shoulders seemed to relax as you met his gaze.

"She's always been there for me, and oh my god this sounds so cheesy, but I honeslty am really grateful for having her in my life. Like us all I've been through rough patches, and she's the ray of sunshine I need to feel better. She's my lifeline."

It felt like it was just you two in the hall.

"Now you probably all know who I'm talking about, but what you don't know is that she is 16 and hasn't tried cookiedough ice-cream, 16 and has never watched the Titanic, or that she is 16 and has never been called  beautiful."

The room was silent and your heart was pounding.

"So, Y/N, I am going to tell you that you are beautiful. You are beautiful and kind and everything that I could ever ask for. I'm sorry to put you on the spot like this, but I- I- I was wondering," he stammered,

You didn't even realise you were on the edge of your seat.

"if maybe - if you wanted - you would go to prom with me?"

With your eyes still locked, you nodded, and gave a smile that beat even Gilinsky's grin.

The hall echoed with cheers.
