A Light in Darkness

Chapter 1

"BAKUGOOOOOOOOOO!" The exhausted redhead screams at the top of his lungs. He was too late. On the other side of the rooftop stood his best friend with one foot already in the sky. He takes off running for his friend, desperately trying to stop him from ending his life.

"NO! Bakugo don't!" He screams out again with a crack in his voice. The razor he had found and put into his pocket now slices into his thigh, but he doesn't stop. The only thing on his mind is getting to his friend. His friend in need. His friend that had been suffering all on his own.

Kirishima was determined. He had failed at protecting Bakugo once. He had promised himself that he would never fail at it again.

Right as the redhead was a few feet away, Bakugo looked back at the other for the first time. He had a gentle, sincere smile but his eyes were broken. There were no tears in his eyes. There was no pain. There was nothing and the nothingness was more apparent than the moon in the night sky. At the sight of this Kirishima froze. He couldn't help it, his whole body just stopped moving the second he looked Bakugo in the eyes. His whole body is covered in goosebumps and his heart stops beating, just for a second. But a second too long.

The blonde takes the second step off the building and begins plummeting down the 5 story building, to his death. As he begins falling, all of his limbs begin to dangle above him. He goes to breathe but because of his fall, he isn't able to push any air out, only air gets pushed in. Tears form in his eyes and that's when it hits him.

He doesn't want to die, he doesn't want to leave this earth, he doesn't want to abandon Kirishima. He wants to live. He never wanted to end his life, he just wanted to end his pain. He wanted to stop the abuse and the suffering. That is what he wanted to die, not himself. But now it is too late. Having these thoughts now isn't good enough to save him. To take back the worst decision he ever made. More tears leave his eyes and he tries to scream, but it just hurts his throat and no noise seems to come out. The ground is approaching faster and faster. He knows it is over so he closes his eyes, hoping that the ground never comes, but knowing it would never happen.

Up on the top of the roof Kirishima is finally able to move again. Tears flow down his face as he screams out for his friend. Mad at himself for not protecting Bakugo a second time. He looks down at his falling friend, feeling so helpless...so useless.

But a spark of bright white grabs his attention. He looks to the side and there stands Todoroki with a stream of ice coming from the right side of his body. In the next instant Bakugo rolls along the ice and stops at Todoroki's feet.

Kirishima's heartbeat starts beating faster and faster. "TODOROKI!!!" He screams at the top of his lungs to his friend down below as he jumps off the building. Todoroki, at the bottom, looks up and sees Kirishima jumping and immediately makes a giant ice slide so his friend could get down safely.

Kirishima rides down the 5 story ice slide and as soon as he reaches the bottom he sprints over to Bakugo. Bakugo is curled up in a ball, as small as he could possibly get with Todoroki standing above him. Kirishima slides onto his knees and picks up Bakugo, holding him tightly in his arms.

Bakugo is sobbing, not even aware that his fall of death has stopped and he is now being held by the person he loves the most. "Please...I don't want to die...please...I don't want to live but I don't want to die. I can't keep going...it is too hard...I can't live...but I don't want to die. Why me?"

"Bakugo." The shark toothed boy musters up his most soothing voice possible. The words that his friend mutters between sobs completely breaks Kirishima's heart. He has to do something. He froze...again. When someone's life was on the line he failed. To Kirishima, he wasn't a hero or even a man, he was nothing but useless.
