I make my way back to my cabin with a huge smile on my face. That was amazing. I feel like a thirteen year old girl again. Energy is bursting through me.
I walk slowly the door trying not to wake anyone up. I slowly open the door, but it still makes a fee little creaking noises. I quietly change into my night dress before going to sleep.
"Elizabeth." I hear a voice say. My eyes open slowly and I see Hannah on her knees because the bottom bunk is so low. "Finally, I've been trying to get you up for a good five minutes."
"What is it that you need, Hannah." I ask tiredly. My eyes are still adjusting to the light that is shining. It seems brighter an usual.
"Lucy and Matilda went to eat breakfast. I wanted to go as well, but I didn't want to leave you on your own." Hannah smiles a crooked smile. I slowly get up off my bed and tell her I'll go with her.
I put on a long brown dress with a white torso only in the front part and a dark green string that ties the back. I get Hannah to tie it while I put my hair up in a braided bun and slip on my small heals.
"Thank you." I say to her and we walk out of the cabin. We make small take on the way to the eating place where a ton of third class are right now. We found Matilda and Lucy sitting down next to two girls. They looked like they were astonished at how beautiful they are.
We walked up to them and Lucy politely shooed them away. We took a seat next to them and ate some of the bread that was on the table.
"How was he?" Lucy asks me. I look at her oddly, not knowing what she meant. I take another bite of my bed before replying.
"Who was who?" I asked back.
"The man." A wave of realization came across my face. How could I forget such a wonderful creature?
"Oh, he was wonderful. His name is Tobias Abernathy I haven't asked him about first class yet. I'm hoping that I'd get the chance to today." I give them a half smile as I say it.
They all look somewhat pleased with my answer. "Anyway, have you been writing anything lately?" Matilda asks. I nod my head and go to my lap to pick up my book but it wasn't there.
"I must have left it up in the room. Excuse me." I stand up from the bench and walk hurriedly to my cabin.
I open the door and look around the small place. Nothing. It's gone. How can it be gone? I had it last night. Wait...last night. I had it with Tobias. Maybe he knows where it could have gone. But how do I get his attention?
I made my way to where Tobias and I were the other night. Well it isn't there so she must have it. I sit down and sigh. I'm probably never going to get that book back.
"What's the matter sweetheart?" I hear an older lady say to me. I look at her gray-blue eyes and her slightly wrinkled face. Her blond hair had bits of gray at the roots.
"Oh nothing really. It's just I lost my book. I write in it and now I don't have anything to write in." She looks at me sympathetically.
"Do you have any idea where it could be?" She asked while putting her hand on mine. Her hands were so cold.
"Well I checked my cabin and the only other place would be here but it isn't. The only thing I could think of would be it being with the man I was with yesterday." I sigh again. How stupid can I be to just leave it with him?
"Well dear, it'll turn up somewhere. It's a boat, there aren't many places it can be." She says. Her voice is so soothing. She must have had kids because she seems nurturing and very calming.
"Yeah, you're right. I should just relax it'll make it's way back here sooner or later." We sit in silence for a short while. When is Tobias going to come back and hand my my book. Why did he even take it anyway?
"Where are you from, darling?" She smiles at me. I smile back politely.
"New York, and you?" She replies with New York as too. We talk about the city for a little while. She tells me that she was just there last year and she came over to see her daughter's wedding. I tell her that I haven't been to New York in four years and she explains how much it's changed, which wasn't much at all.
"I don't mean to be rude or anything but I think I should get back to my friends. I don't want them to worry about me." I smile at her and get up.
"I understand." She smiles back. I give her a small nod and head back to where we were. I look out to the ocean as I walk. I smile to myself. The sound of the ocean is so calming. Suddenly I bump into someone and we both fall.
