I went to bed that night with a storm brewing in my chest. "How dare she?" I muttered to myself. In a way, I knew she was right. Every word that flowed from those gorgeous red lips held truth. Of course, there was a bit of exaggeration in them, but truth nonetheless.
We didn't speak for the first hour. She glared at me and I glared at her. One of us had to break the silence. "Why won't you talk to me?" I asked, staring up at her with sadness in my eyes.
"You're kidding right? We don't need to have another one of these conversations. I met you, what, two months ago?"
"Well yeah but-"
"I'm gonna stop you right there. There is no but."
"Then at least give me a chance to explain without you interrupting me." She leaned back against the tent she conjured on the first night of our arrival.
"Go on then." She groaned, her delicate fingers rubbing her temples.
"Thank you!" I say with exasperation. "I wasn't in the right place that night." She raised her eyebrow in disbelief. "I know I hit a nerve too and I was wrong and I'm sorry. Maybe I can make it up to you somehow, if you'd let me."
"Yeah sure whatever."
"Really?"
"Isn't that what I just said?" She grinned. I threw my arms around her.
"I'll try not to let you down!" I squealed.
"You better."We were alone by ourselves for a year. Megora hadn't showed up. Perhaps she was planning something big or Ally's hit had harmed her permanently and she was dead (we were especially gleeful at the thought of that). We were right about one of them.
The skies turned red, lightning began to appear out of nowhere, the trees began to wail. We didn't know what was happening or how to stop it but the redness of lightning was inescapable no matter where we went or how far we ran. It was unnatural. None of this had happened according to Ally so what was going on?
One day, the full force of what was going on hit us. A new storm was brewing, the only things to be heard were the roars and claps of lightning, our panting as we drew breaths and our feet slamming onto the ground every step we took. Then.
"Watch out!" A lightning strike seemed to get bigger and bigger. "Niamh!" It all went black.
