Chapter Eleven:

Josephine wasn't sure where they were going, but she trailed behind them nonetheless. They had made it to a narrow road, all around them was beautiful hills and wooded areas. She couldn't help but soak it all in, breathing in the fresh air.

"What's going on in that cyborg brain of yours?"

She looked up, eyes watching as Bucky glared at the other man. "It's computing."

Sam chuckled, turning to her. "Why you all the way over there? Come here."

Josephine pursed her lips, catching up to them. He pointed at Bucky, "Can you see the gears turning too, or is it just me? Oh-- they're malfunctioning, shutting down. Yep, they're on fire."

Bucky only shook his head, a bruise shining underneath one eye. "We have to find out where the serum is coming from."

"Someone catch me up." She said, "I kind of want to know what's going on."

"Those people back there, they're super-soldiers." Sam began, "Like Bucky here, and we don't need any more of him. Especially if it gets into the wrong hands, which it seems like it has. It's been 80 years, and now there is eight super soldiers running loose?"

Tires crunched over gravel, Josephine glanced behind to see a military style vehicle roll up next to them. The horn sounded as it stopped, revealing John Walker sitting in the back. "So, that didn't go as planned, huh?"

Never in a million years did she think she would ever meet this man in person, and yet here she was, and with Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson, of all people. She glanced at Bucky, remembering how upset and angry he had been watching the news, the way they had paraded him up there with the title his best friend once had.

They kept walking, ignoring the car. Josephine stepped closer to Sam, ignoring the mutters they made as they ignored him.

It sped up, keeping in pace with them as he swung open the door, "Look, at least we know what we're up against now, huh. And we're pretty sure it's one of the Big Three, so..."

Sam looked at him at that, "Aliens, Androids or Wizards?"

"Pretty sure."

Bucky shook his head, angrily staring at the ground. "There is no such thing as wizards."

"Then it's aliens or androids."

John Walker looked a lot younger without his helmet on, certainly to young to take on such a title.

"Or super soldiers." Sam glared.

Lemar, she remembered his introduction on the trucks, leaned over to face them. "Shit. Super Soldiers, for real?"

"Yeah."

The man nodded, holding his helmet in his lap. "Well, yeah, so we gotta work together then."

"Not happening." Bucky cut in, anger rolling of him in waves.

"Look, I think it will all just work better if we--"

"Just 'cause you carry that shield, it doesn't mean you're Captain America."

John took a breath, eyeing Bucky down as the car adjusted to their new speed. "I've done the work, okay?"

"You ever jump on top of a grenade?"

"Yeah, actually. Four times. It's a thing I do with my helmet. It's a reinforced helmet. It's a long story, but..."

Josephine fiddled with the sleeve of her cardigan, eyes finding the road beneath them very interesting. "Have you ever--"

"Who is she?" He cut her off, staring at her.
