The Best Ones

[3rd Person POV]

3 years ago.

"Thank you for loving me."

Those were the last words (Y/N) will ever hear from his mother.

After all that, Yuriko needed surgery.

The surgery failed and it costed Yuriko's life.

Junichi was the first to hear the news, it broke him down. He doesn't know how can he deal after the love of his life is gone forever.

But right now, how will Junichi tell (Y/N) that his mother passed away.

Junichi already knew life is cruel, but (Y/N) didn't prepare for it.

Right now, Junichi must immediately tell his son.

It was Monday, (Y/N) is in his room, he still wears his school uniform. 

Junichi just went home, he opens the door of (Y/N)'s room as he went in.

"Oh, hey dad! I just we-" (Y/N) stopped himself talking, he noticed something from his father. 

Junichi looks stoic but his eyes made it noticeable, his eyes looked red.

"Did something happened, dad...?"

Junichi's eyes are red, it must be he just cried not too long ago. His wife's death took a toll on him. 

"Son, I..."

"..."

"Your mother-"

"What about her?" (Y/N) quickly interrupts.

Junichi took a deep breath before he gave the news to his son.

"She is no longer with us anymore."

"..."

"Son...?"

"..."

"I just want to let you know, I'm always here for you..."

"..."

"Just...say something..."

"You're joking right?" 

"No, son, I'm not..."

"No, you must be lying! She promised me that she'll be okay!" (Y/N) began to raise his voice on his father.

Junichi is not gonna bother, he knows his son is in the first and second stage.

"Son, but she..."

"Just shut up! It's not funny!" 

Junichi doesn't know what to say to him, he is not the best at comforting and bringing the news about the death of a loved one.

Junichi went closer to him.

"Dad, you're joking right?! This isn't April fools!" Junichi noticed his son was breathing rapidly.

Junichi tried to hug him but (Y/N) shoves him away.

It shocked Junichi because this is the first time his son went hostile to him. 

"GET OUT!!" (Y/N) became angry at his father. He is still in denial.

"..."

"JUST GET OUT!!!" He yelled at his father.

Junichi has nothing to say to him, he complied to his wishes as he went outside of (Y/N)'s room.

As the door closes, (Y/N) noticed that his tears are coming out of his eyes.

"Why the hell am I crying for?! She isn't dead!" (Y/N) thought to himself.

A day later.

Ever since Junichi broke the news to him, (Y/N) distanced himself from his father. They didn't talk at all to each other for a day.

Until Junichi brought (Y/N) to Yuriko's funeral.

The two went to a large room. All they see is are the funeral arrangement, with flower arrangements, and a portrait of the deceased Yuriko.

It made (Y/N) shock and gave him feelings of unreality.

(Y/N) began to walk closer to Yuriko's coffin. He can see the portrait of his mother, he now knew his father wasn't joking.

If you have a close relationship with your mother, it is really sad to see and hear that moment when you know you won't see her again. 

"Mom...please wake up..." (Y/N) said with a soft desperate voice.

...

"Please..."

...

(Y/N) falls to his knees, he gritted his teeth as he can feel the tears coming out.

The next moment, he was sobbing.

And that is the beginning of the slow descent into madness.

As (Y/N) sobs, he was then screaming. 

He was having a mental breakdown.

His mind was shattered, and as well as his heart.

The screams that (Y/N) make, sounds like someone is murdering him.

And when you lose someone that close to you, it doesn't really make a difference.

(Y/N)'s scream is so expressive, like, he's not crying, he's screaming with tons of pain.

Junichi notices his tears falling, he already lost his wife and now he sees his son like this. Like Yuriko, he hated seeing his son this way. 

This is the first time Junichi saw someone screams for loss, sadness, grief, and a mind breaking down. And that someone is his son.

Junichi quickly goes to him.

"(Y/N), please stop, your mother would hate seeing you like this..."

"..."

"Son...?"

"..."

Junichi checks on his son, it shocked him.

(Y/N) wasn't screaming anymore, he was just frozen. His body is frozen and his mind is blank.

(Y/N) then falls face-first into the ground.

A day later.

(Y/N) opens his eyes, he observed his surroundings. He is on his bed in his room.

"Was that a dream...?" (Y/N) thought to himself

He quickly goes outside of his room. He then hears an oil sizzling sound from the kitchen.

(Y/N) was quickly overjoyed, he thought that was his mother cooking breakfast.

His joy quickly disappeared when he saw his mother wasn't cooking but his father was.

"Mom's gone, isn't she..."

"You are correct." Junichi didn't bother looking at his son. He doesn't have the right words to comfort him.

(Y/N) began to sob again.

After that, (Y/N) tried to compose himself. The two went to sit at the table. (Y/N)'s eyes are red. They are now eating breakfast.

Junichi was eating his meal while (Y/N) was just staring at the food, he doesn't have the appetite to eat."

"Son, you must eat to keep your energy up."

"Dad..."

"Yes, son?"

"Why do the best people always die so soon...?"

"When you're in a garden, which flowers would you pick?"

"The best ones."
