Lavinia ducked around the corner and scampered across the darkened hallway, the last thing she needed was to be intercepted by Dolores Umbridge on her way to meeting Dumbledore. Lavinia's first week at Hogwarts had gone as well as was to be expected, the students were none the wiser of her true identity and she even had a few friends. But those small victories could not be allowed to subtract from the other more serious matters of the week.
The statues once again neglected to ask her for a password, remembering her no matter how many years had passed and she was grateful as she took the stairs in twos, leaping all the way up them to the headmaster's door. Once, she'd have entered easily to see her parents sprawled around, discussing plans for a new greenhouse or protective wards to keep the castle standing for centuries but now, she ground to a halt and knocked calmly. She was nothing if not polite.
"Enter," a now-familiar voice beckoned and she pushed the door open. Once again, she was startled for a moment by how different the room looked from the one she remembered but countless headmasters had passed through its chambers in her absence and she forced the nauseating lack of familiarity out of her mind.
As expected, Albus Dumbledore sat straight-backed and silver bearded behind his desk but now, a dark-robed professor occupied one of the chairs opposite. Lavinia had had very little to do with Severus Snape since her arrival, he had taken to calling her by her false name, treating her as any other professor would treat a student. Perhaps he was afraid of her, knowing that she knew his entire history, or perhaps he just did not like her very much.
"Good evening," she dipped her head to the both of them and they returned it, watching as she took a seat, her emerald cloak ruffling at her sides. One thing that never failed to strike her as odd was the way in which they all spoke to her, of course, she was older than all of them but she hadn't lived to experience those years. Molly Weasley was the only adult she'd met to treat her like the child she technically continued to be.
"Thank you for coming at such short notice, how was your first week?" Dumbledore implored calmly, those glittering blue eyes telling a thousand tales, as always. He knew that she hadn't been sticking strictly to the life of the student but had he expected anything less? She was not there to attend classes and make friends, not entirely. The vial attached to his chest was a continual reminder of that.
"Enlightening," she returned, attempting to mock the relaxed slouch that both men employed but she was certain she looked ridiculous doing it. Lavinia Hogwarts was never relaxed, not in any sense of the word, there was always some threat or danger to acknowledge and counter, there was always something to note or pay attention to. She wished to feel their level of calm, rather than feeling every day as though she was balancing on the edge of a blade.
"I am certain we have much to discuss, I hope you do not mind Severus joining us. As you both are no doubt aware of one another's... Circumstances, I saw no reason to hide such information. There will come a time when plans must unfold without my assistance," he spoke so easily, as though he had the roadmap for his entire future already painted in his mind-- Lavinia wasn't entirely sure she appreciated the darkness in his ocean eyes.
