Chapter Nine

Maxine's mother is Japanese American, Her parents sell weapons to the United States military.
Their driveway is practically filled with different type of guns and grenades and weapons that I don't even recognize.
They also have bow and arrows, when we were younger Me Mcman taught Maxine and I how to use the bow and arrow, we are both good at it, but Maxine is a better shooter I guess it runs in the family.
The McMans have an area in their compound for firing arrows and guns, we were never allowed to touch the guns, Maxine's house was like my second home and her family was like my second family.

I ran up the stairs excitedly, with Maxine running behind me, I could hear the laughter and voices of our  other friends, I push Maxine's room door open and the scent of a familiar perfume hit me.

My eye land on Mindy and our eyes met.
" Mindy" I ran to hug her and she hugged back with equal enthusiasm.

" Wow Joey, you are a little taller and much more prettier" Mindy said.

Maxine laughed. " That doesn't make her tall she is still short"

I made a face at Maxine, " Don't say short, I'm just petite I guess"

" Same difference" Maxine shrugged.

" I don't get it how did Max convince you to come?" Sondra asked

" I have my ways" Maxine replied

" This is awesome Mindy, I would have paid you if I had access to my trust fund" Maxine giggled excitedly, clapping her hands in the process, she admired her self in the mirror smacking her lips multiple times which is a bad habit that she has.

Mindy rolls her eyes as she applied mascara on Maddie's lashes.
" You always say that anytime you ask me to help you and your friends, come up with a better sentence that won't make me feel appreciated and regret feeling appreciated at the same time"

" Thank you for your help Mindy" I smiled at her and looked back at the mirror I was holding, admiring the light makeup on my face and my brown hair that looks like I just stepped out of a salon.

" You are welcome Joey the sister I wish I had" Mindy always called me the sister she wished she had in order to piss Maxine off and it works pretty well.
" All done" she says as she closes the mascara.
Maddie looks in the mirror with a look of self admiration on her face, the kind of look that I will interprete as ' let's see how Cody rejects me ', we all know that she has a thing for Cody McCoy, but Cody is always an asshole and have no regard for girls and just uses them the way he pleases because the throw their selves at him, I find it so sad because Cody is a super hot blonde but he has broken a lot of hearts.
" Joey, how is Rivers?" Mindy asks,
" He is fine" I reply.
" Good" she said.
She dated Rivers for a while, she is two years older than him and I guess they broke up because of distance since she relocated to New York.

" Joey you are still in your underwear"
Sondra said, she has been really impatient since Andy has a been waiting for her downstairs and we had this insane rule about arriving at the party at the same time,

" I don't know what to wear" I told her.
Mindy lets out a frustrated sigh and throws a denim playsuit at me.

I put on the denim play suit and it fits perfectly. I stood in front of the dresser mirror admiring myself.
" You are a life saver Mindy"

Stephanie steps in beside me.
" Woah Joey you are totally wearing heels on that"

" No way" I disagreed.

" Steph is right, maybe wedge sandals, come on Jo" Maddie passed me a wedge sandals she took from Maxine that didn't fit her I put it on and the fit perfectly.
