AMARA LAZILY LAID HER head on her arm as she scribbled down words onto the paper in front of her, lifting her head up when something hard hit the window in front of the desk she was sitting at. Curiously, she rose out of her seat and looked out the glass to see Lip standing there. She rolled her eyes and stood, going downstairs to let him in.

"You know the rock and window thing is so overplayed and cliche."

"Jesus Christ it's freezing in here," he looked around as he shut the door behind him. "You not pay heat?"

"Oh, no. Gloria is going through menopause or something," she shrugged and led him farther into the house. "Keeps getting hot flashes and freaks out. Decided just to keep the temperature colder for right now until it's over. How'd your quiz go?"

"Fine," Lip shrugged, stuffing his hands into his pockets. "How'd your date with James Lewis go?"

Her brows furrowed and she turned to face him, stopping mid-step. "What?"

"You heard me."

"No," she shook her head. "Because I think you just implied I went on a date with someone who wasn't you."

"I saw you two yesterday," he didn't look away. "Sitting at the booth together. Is that why you've been avoiding me?"

"I've been avoiding you because you've been treating your sister like shit for something that wasn't even her fault, and you were just a volcano waiting to explode and I didn't want to be around for the lava to burn me."

"Fantastic."

She shot him a look. "I didn't go on a date with him Lip. You know I would never do that."

"Do I?" He asked, stepping closer. "Because I thought I knew my sister would never put us in harm's way and then Liam ended up in the hospital. And I thought I knew my own girlfriend wouldn't go on a date with my sworn enemy but maybe I was wrong."

Amara ran a hand through her hair. "Jesus you're so dramatic. Sworn enemy? Do you even hear yourself?"

"Stop avoiding the question."

She pursed her lips, and nodded to herself. "It's fair that you think that, actually."

Lip blinked in surprise, obviously he didn't expect her to agree. But she didn't feel like arguing, and he had clearly come itching for a fight. "What?"

"I guess I would think the same thing if I saw you and Karen sharing a booth or something," she swallowed and reached forward to grab his hand, squeezing it gently when he didn't pull away. "But it wasn't romantic at all on my part. I was only sitting with him, and I'm sorry that it came across as anything else but I promised nothing happened."

He stared wordlessly at her for a moment, before nodding and thumbing her hand. "Okay."

"Okay?"

"I hate him."

"He's gotten better."

"No way."

"Maybe only a little."

He huffed. "Anyway, I believe you."

"You better, because I don't lie. Unlike you," she smirked and kicked his leg. "Phillip Douglas."

His face broke out into a grin, and he kissed the top of her head. "Still can't believe you thought my middle name was Douglas all this time."

"Shut up."

"Sooo," he pulled her back towards the door by their connected hands. "Come to dinner with me. Mandy's over right now cooking us stuff."

She rolled her eyes and let him tug her. "Fine, if you insist."
