"Y' know I hate surprises," you huff, crossing your arms and leaning your head against his car window.

"I know, I know," Arvin chuckles and finishes up his cigarette, flicking it out the window. He puts a hand back on the wheel while the other was already placed on your knee. "Just a couple m' minutes and we'll be there. M' kay?"

You place your hand on top of his and caress his hand gently. "M'kay. Better not be taking me to some damn forest to kill me," you peer over at him with teasing eyes.

He averts his attention to you and rolls his eyes, "I'd never. You're mine and you're too damn pretty."

"So you'd kill me if I was ugly? Shallow," you push his hand off your knee and grin.

"Oh, doll," he laughs to himself and looks back at the road.

You and Arvin had met shortly after he arrived in Cincinnati. He didn't know where he was going to go after the mess he left until he ran into you. It seemed like a match made in heaven. You were looking for a roommate and he was, well you could say, lost.

From that moment on, you two never left each other's side. You both grew fond of each other easily, became friends and soon lovers after a couple of months. Took you both a while to realize your feelings for each other, but it all worked out in the end.

He soon pulls over by a lake and parks, he smiles over at you but it falters as he notices the confused expression upon your face. "Not the middle of a forest, but a lake with some forest. I mean, I guess it'd be nicer to die by a pretty view," you shrug and he groans at your playful banter.

"I should've never told you what I did in Knockemstiff," he glares at you and tugs at his bottom lip with his teeth.

You smirk cheekily and lean close, pecking his lips. "I'm just messin' with you baby, I hope I'm not that irritating," you pout and look into his eyes.

He looks down at you and pecks your lips in return, "Never. M' not that soft."

"Sure," you lean back and exit the car, inhaling the fresh air as soon as you step out.

Arvin raises his eyebrows in amusement and licks his teeth, doing the same as you. "Beautiful ain't it?" he watches you admire the lake and forest.

"For sure," you exhale and hug yourself, smiling at how peaceful you felt. How right everything felt, how perfect everything felt, with him.

He inhales deeply and walks towards you, wrapping his arms around your waist. You immediately wrap your arms around him as he does. He places his chin on your shoulder and looks out at the scenery with you. "How y' feeling, my angel?" he murmurs into your ear.

You felt his breath against your skin and it sent shivers down your spine. "Like heaven."

"Good," he presses a gentle kiss behind your ear and pulls away.

"Where y' going?" you turn around, eyes glued to him as he walks towards the back of his car.

"Getting stuff for a picnic," he hums and pops open his trunk.

Your eyes soften and you follow him, "Picnic?"

"Yep."

He was never one for romantic gestures mainly because he wasn't aware of them. Most you two did for a date was a movie drive-in with some cheap snacks you both scrapped some coins from around the house for.

He must've talked to the neighbors about what to do you assumed, given that they're a nice old married couple. You found it absolutely sweet how he'd go out of his way to do all of this. Though the one question you didn't know the answer to is, why?

After you both shared a nice meal and a bottle of whiskey, he took you to dance by the water. It felt like a dream, you swore you don't know what you do without this man.

He kisses your forehead as the two of you sway back and forth. "Woah," he murmurs and gazes above you.

You pull away and turn around, unsure of what caught his attention, "What?"

"Sun's settin'," he says quietly and gulps, running a nervous hand through his hair.

"Oh," you smile and get lost in the beautiful colors painted in the sky. "Really is pretty."

"Y-Yep," he wipes the sweat beads that began to form on his forehead. He closes his eyes and bounces on his heels for a moment. He finally kneels down on one knee and looks up at you, as your back is turned to him.

"You okay? You got quiet-" you turn around and to your surprise, he wasn't in your vision. You hear a shuffle and you glance down at the sight of the man you absolutely adore, down on a knee with a simple ring in his fingers. "W-What in the hell?" you cover your mouth in pure shock.

He smiles weakly and grabs your hand gently, "H-Hi there, ah s-shit. I obviously a-ain't ever done this. But damnit, Y/n. I don't got a whole speech if I'm being honest with you. I just- I just know it's you. It's always been you. Y-You- I- my life, my life was black and white before I met you. T-Then as soon as I met you at the shitty rundown breakfast place, m-my life instantly was full of colors. All because of you and t-that's why I know it's you. S-So can you be mine? F-Forever?"

You stifle a sob and nodded repeatedly as he spoke. "A-Arvin," you whimper as tears stream down your cheeks. "Of c-course, you goddamn fool."

He lets out a shaky breath of relief and slips the ring onto your finger. You fall to your knees and cup his face, kissing him deeply. He kisses back happily as a couple of tears sneak out of his eyes.
