CHAPTER 16: PAST & PRESENT

JENNIE POV

I never expected to be this happy since I let Lisa court me. It's been two months and she is nothing but patient, just like now. I was having my PMS and my mood swings are over the roof. But here she is, buying meds and foods that I love. How can I not fall in love with this one. I was lost in thoughts that I did not realize that she was already talking to me.

"Hey, Jennie. You're spacing out again. Do you want to skip work?" Lisa asked me right after our meeting.

"Huh, no. I'm okay. You know we're avoiding unnecessary rumors right? We already talked about this." Lisa nods in agreement.

Since the beginning of her courting, we agreed that we should act professional whenever we are in the office to avoid gossips from fellow employees.

Lisa quickly agreed saying that she don't want to be part of office rumors. She is very understanding and sweet. She waits for me after work, take me to dinner sometimes and drive me home.

She never took advantage of me, which is kind of irritating because I'm starting to think that I'm not attractive enough. Although I appreciate the gesture, I wish that she would ask me already if I could be her girlfriend.

It was a lazy Saturday night and Lisa has not message me the whole day. I hate to admit it but I'm starting to miss the presence of the monkey.

"Jennie, you can message her." Yong said as she continue to read her book.

"I don't want. I don't want her to think that I'm being clingy or needy. We're not even official." I sigh.

"Yong, am I bad looking?"

"What? Where is this all coming from?"

"It's just that Lisa is not making any move until now. I'm starting to think that she's not finding me attractive enough."

"You're thinking too much, Jennie. Maybe she's just busy today. She has her own life too. Why don't you message her? Ask her about her day?" Yong suggested.

Ding!

A notification on my phone. It's Lisa. My heart skipped a beat and the butterflies started to churn in my stomach.

🐵: Hi kitten. Sorry I was not able to message you. I was kinda busy. Let me make it up to you. Are you free tonight? Let's grab a bite?

🐱: No worries. I'm also busy today. I'm free tonight. Pick me up at 7?

🐵: Sure sure! I'll see you in a bit.

LISA POV

"I'm sorry but I need to go. I have an appointment at 7." I excused myself. I'm actually with Atty. Hyejin discussing the documents that I need to sign for my legalization as my father's daughter.

"Okay. I'll send the revised papers to you and Mr. Moon next week. Hopefully, we'll finish everything by the end of the month."

"Okay. Thank you so much attorney. I'll go now." I bowed.

"Goodluck on your date, Lisa." She suddenly said. I'm grinning and shake my head.

THIRD PERSON POV

Small restaurant 2 block away from Jennie's apartment...

"You look beautiful, Jennie. I'm sorry I was not able to message you today. Quite busy with work stuff." Making the feline-eyed cheeks  turned to crimson.

"Thanks. It's okay. I'm quite busy too. But don't exhaust yourself too much. You said before that work-life balance is important."

"Of course."

Jennie's like a kid when she eats. She's messy but that is one of the reasons why Lisa loves her.  She can baby and take care of her. She leans closer to wipe the sauce on Jennie's lips.

Jennie almost fall of her chair because of sudden action. The graze of Lisa's thumb sent volts through her body.

"You're so messy." Lisa chuckled as she pass the tissue to Jennie.

The feline-eyed woman fans herself to distract her. She needs to open a new topic to ease the tension between them.

"So...ahm...Lisa. I just want to know, you said before that you got your heart broken before. May I know what happened?"

"Ahm...well. She was introduced by a college blockmate who happens to be in the same club as her. We kinda hit it off right away and the rest was history. We fall and fell out of love." Lisa averted Jennie's eyes as she reminisce the past.

"So, it was mutual decision?"

"In a way yes. She came from a well off family, that's one of the reasons. I just accepted our faith eventually. But, I did not regret any of it. I learned a lot from her. I spent beautiful events of my life with her for three years."

"So, the biggest reason why you broke up was because of family."

"Yeah. Can I ask you something about your family. Are they, you know. Open about this kind of set-up?"

"Well, yeah. They always say that we cannot choose who we love, so."

"Hmm...that's good to hear. What a relief."

"So, what's her name?" Jennie can't seem to erase the idea that Lisa had an almost perfect love story if not only because of the girl's family.

"Is that really necessary? It was all in the past, Jennie. She's part of my past and you...you are my present and my future."

"If I'm your future then why you're so slow Monkey?" Jennie's irritated tone is visible as the monkey cannot answer her simple question.

Lisa almost choked when she heard the kitten. Her heart is beating so fast right and her brain cannot function properly. She's been preparing herself since last week to formally ask Jennie but work has its way of ruining everything plus the meeting with their family attorney.

She did not expect that the kitten is already getting impatient. Her heart swells with joy as she knows that Jennie somehow likes her too.

She already had plans on how to ask her. First choice is to close the Thai restaurant which they had their first official date or to arrange a simple dinner at their family yatch and pop the 'will you be my girlfriend' question.

She holds Jennie's hand across the table and caress it slowly, her soft warm hands always gives Lisa a rush.

"I plan to do this in a more flashy manner but you seem to be in a hurry sweetie." Lisa smirked that irked Jennie more.

"Jennie Kim...will..." Lisa was about to pop the question when she heard a familar voice.

"Lisa? Lalisa Manoban?"

She and Jennie were startled. They look for the voice and saw a small lady standing near their table.

"Hi, Lisa. Long time no see."

"Irene." Lisa froze on her seat while Jennie was in a complete oblivion.
