CHAPTER 19: SECRETS

Three months passed so quickly. The acquisition is coming to fruitition the coming week and Jennie could not be more thankful.

She is not the jealous type before with her former boyfriends but with Lisa, it is a different story. In that short amount of time that they are together, she realized that the COO is the sweetest person that she ever met and this cost them some petty fights.

The COO was naturally sweet and attentive that in their first month celebration, the taller woman surprised her with a dinner date. It was so simple except for the yatch and the mini orchestra playing sweet music.

Yes, the monkey went all out and rented a yatch which earned her a good long sermon from the kitten.

"Nothing is extravagant for you sweetie. You deserve the best."

Jennie just shakes her head every time she remembers that cheesy moment. They are now in Jennie's apartment having their usual chill night.

"So, baby, the acquisition deal will be finalize next week?"

"Yup. You'll never get to see Irene, sweetie. So relax now." Lisa chuckled.

"What's that suppose to mean Manoban?" Jennie glared at the taller woman.

"I'm just joking sweetie. Calm down." The kitten is about to smack the monkey when the oven sound off.

"Ooppsss! I will just get the popcorn." Lisa stands up, sprinting to the kitchen.

Jennie was left in the living room scanning Netflix when Lisa's phone vibrated. She is not a sneaky girlfriend and she totally trust Lisa but something in her gut tells her to peak at Lisa's phone that is flashing a message from a certain "Hyejina".

"Who is Hyejin?" she thought. She was about to pick the phone when Lisa came back from the kitchen holding a bowl of popcorn.

"Someone texted you. A Hyejin." Jennie immediately said.

"Oh...go ahead pick a movie. I'll just make a quick call." Lisa went to Jennie's small terrace. Jennie keeps on throwing quick glances at the monkey but curiosity got in to her so she decided to eardrop.

"....I'll see you tomorrow then. Do I need to bring something?..."

Jennie's eyes widened upon hearing these words. She is trying to be logical and think of other things like maybe this Hyejin is a co-worker. But she knows almost all of Lisa's co-worker since they work in the same bank. Maybe she's a business client. But why does she have to go outside to make a call? If that is a client she will eventually know this sooner or later.

Her train of thoughts was broken when Lisa speaks again.

"Okay. I understand. Same place right? I'll be there at seven. See you, Hyejin."

"Yah! I'm no monkey! You lion."

"Okay...okay...cute little lion."

Cute little lion were the only words that retains to Jennie's mind. She threw all her assumptions of professionalism and stick with her gut. "Is Lisa having an affair? This cannot be. We're always together."

She quickly went back to her seat when she saw that Lisa drop the call. She wanted to ask the taller girl about the call but she does not want to look like a prying girlfriend. She will wait until Lisa tells her about this certain Hyejin. She needs to trust her more.

It was almost midnight when they decided to call it a night. Lisa kissed the kitten goodnight and told her that she cannot meet her tomorrow evening because she needs to attend to something important.

After Lisa left, Jennie quickly dialed her cousin's number. After a few rings, a fumming Yong Sun answered her.

🐰: This better be a life and death situation, Jennie!

🐱: Why? Did I interrupt something?

A burst of laughter can be heard at the background, and Jennie immediately recognize the voice. It was Byul.

🐰: Yah! Hurry! What is it?

🐱: Since Byul is there, can you ask her if she knows a certain Hyejin?

🐰: Hyejin? Why? Did you see her with that Hyejin? Where? When? I will smack this hamster!

🐱: No, not your hamster. Anyway, just ask her please. Or can I talk to her instead?

Yong passed the phone to Byul who is still laughing.

🐹: Hey, what is up?

🐱: Do you know a certain Hyejin? Is she one of Lisa's friend? Or your friend perhaps?

There was silence for a couple of seconds...

🐹: Ah, Hyejin. You're right. She's a friend. Don't worry about it. And why are asking me this instead of monkey?

🐱: A friend, okay. Well, I'm not really sure if she will answer or not. I also do not want to be a prying girlfriend.

🐹: You're not intruding her. You're her girlfriend, I'm sure she will understand. Anything else?

🐱: None. I'll let you go back to whatever you're doing.

🐹: Alrighty! We will see you soon!

Jennie heard a faint squeeks from Yong before the line was cut. She knows that the two are having a fun night and she was actually kinda embarrased that she needs to hear those sounds.

Considering what Byul said, she quickly sent a message to Lisa.

🐱: Baby, can I ask something? Promise me you will not get mad or something.

She was about to set her phone down when it rings.

🙊: Hey, sweetie. What is it?

🐱: Ah, baby...I...who is Hyejin?

🙊: oh...She's a friend. Why do you ask?

🐱: Oh, is she the one you will have dinner with tomorrow? Baby...can I come along with you? I..i just want to meet your friend.

Lisa did not respond immediately causing suspicion on the part of Jennie. She was about to speak when the monkey answers.

🙊: Ah, sweetie. Can I call you back? I'm still driving.

🐱: Sure. You take care. Message me when you're at home already.

🙊: Yup. I love you seeetie.

🐱: I love you too

The short phone call should appease Jennie's mind. But the limited answers of Lisa along with her long pauses makes her more suspicious.

An idea crosses her mind. She sent a message to Yong then prepares herself to sleep.

🐱: Yong, do not tell Byul about this. But I need you tomorrow night. We going stakeout! I'll meet you at the cafe tomorrow after work.
