The 'not so' Unremarkable Road

9 1 2

Hey do you remember the lone road?
Fenced by houses on one side and
Contruction under process marking the other.
Just out of ordinary, in plain sight,
Darkness its only bright charm.
A shockingly unremarkable dusty path,
Yet the only place we could be together.
Living the nervous breathless moments,
Of our first and last clandestine meetings.
Each of us exploring and seeking,
The tingling rush of our very first love.

Away from the prying eyes of crowd,
The little stolen moments was all we had,
Where we held hands with giddy smiles,
Where we walked in silence for words didn't matter,
Where you hugged me, all the while nuzzling in my hairs,
Where you kissed my hands, staring into my eyes,
Where we were together in love for the last time.
In middle of nowhere, where we created
A secret between us so sweet and innocent.

It's strange how things changed without warning.
Ofcourse it did, what with we being afraid of light,
Afraid of being broken by the other,
Anxious of growing up, of facing the outer world.
Last time I went to that road
It wasn't empty anymore, there was light.
The construction site is now tall apartment buildings,
People walk there often in evenings.
I have grown up to be happy in present,
And you are somewhere doing what you are best at-
"Being successful".

There is nothing familiar about anything anymore.
At some weak points I wonder the 'what ifs',
But regret is one thing that never comes easy.
As it is you were my teenage crush,
"A love with means to an end",
With happy memories to make me smile at lonely nights.
Someday when we meet again, we must go on a walk
Through that wilderness of concrete,
Maybe we could laugh at our stupidity,
At our insecurities, talk about our naiveity,
How we didn't even have a proper kiss!
To be honest it was an atrocious ignorance on our part!
And finally we could have the closure we definitely deserved,
All along the cemented road that has lost its charm.
