I

"Raven, you are partnered up with Draco," Snape says in his usual monotone speech.

Well, this isn't what I was expecting. Draco doesn't even know who I am. He doesn't act like it anyways. I glance in his direction, but he is already staring back. He quickly glances down.

Ever since our first day back for our sixth year at Hogwarts, Draco Malfoy has been.. off. His normal cocky and arrogant attitude is now a calm, cold demeanor. I know this change because I've been somewhat infatuated with him since my third year. A moment that only I have and will cherish.

It was past midnight. I was restless and couldn't sleep. When I get like this, the only thing that calms me is going to the astronomy tower to look up at the endless sky. With stars that shine so bright that I hope it can shine a little light into my soul that I feel withering away.

I stood there so long, looking up at the stars and over the ground. My fingers were starting to get numb on the railing from the cold. I turn around to find a blonde boy staring at me. His grey eyes staring blankly into mine. He takes me in, eyes narrowing. Neither one of us move or talks for a few seconds. I stare back, wondering who he was. This was my first year since I transferred from Ilvermorny. I had no classes with this guy. I still was making friends, so I didn't particularly look for any hot guys. But this boy wasn't hot. He was beautiful. So beautiful it was piercing with his high cheekbones and skin that glowed in the moonlight.

I just start walking with my head down, looking at my shoes. I strode past him as I feel a hand grab my wrist. I lift my head to face him. His eyes scan my face from my eyes to my cheeks down to my lips back to my eyes. I swallow hard.

"You don't have to leave on my account." He whispers.

"It's okay. I was getting cold anyway." He still was holding onto my wrist, and I wasn't pulling away. His cold hands were somehow heating the parts of me that were numb.

He pulls his wand out of his pocket without letting go of my wrist and whispers a spell I wasn't familiar with. Suddenly my whole body becomes warm. I narrow my eyes at him.

He must notice my look of confusion. "It's a warming spell. Remember that for next time?" He's asking more than telling me.

"Yea. Sure. Thanks." I stumble on my words and am not sure how to react.

"My name is Malfoy. Draco Malfoy." His voice is still barely a whisper.

"I'm Raven. Raven Jones." I'm also whispering. Even though I know, it's just us up here.

He lets go of my wrist, and I'm suddenly cold again. Or at least my wrist is from losing his touch. "It's nice to meet you," I say. We were holding eye contact. "Maybe I'll see you up here again?" I ask. Hoping not to come out too eager.

He smiles. A smile that I want to bottle up and keep forever. "Yea. Maybe." He meets my eyes again. I see his mind working. Trying to figure the new girl out. He finally turns away from me and heads to the banister. I turn my head around to stare just for a moment, then pull my cardigan around me and head back to the Ravenclaw tower.

That was the last time I spoke to Draco. We had a class or two for the past couple of years, but he acted like I didn't exist. Which he doesn't associate himself with the ones who he calls mudbloods. Then I started dating Fred Weasley in fifth year. A rivalry of the Malfoys. So he made sure to stay away from me then. After Fred quit school and started his shop with his brother, we've become... distant. I wonder what he'd say to me being partnered up with Malfoy for the rest of the year in potions. It's best not to tell him.

I was zoned out on our past interaction until I heard Snape's voice get louder. It shook me out of my trance. "You and your partner will be working on brewing all potions together. I don't trust each of you individually with the ingredients nor instructions. This is why I put you in pairs. One of you does better with following the rules. While the other seems to do better with figuring out the right ingredients and mathematics that go into brewing the potion the correct way. We know if one thing goes wrong, it can go badly. Right, mister Longbottom?" Snap sneered in the direction of Neville. He scorched his eyebrows off his face a few weeks ago. They still haven't grown back all the way—everyone in the room chuckles beside Draco.
