(JACKIE'S POV)
Keeping secrets was hard, ever since I was 5 and my brother jake and I hid a turtle in a shoebox under the bed I have been terrible at keeping secrets. Tricia and Ben figured it out quickly, I guess it doesn't take a pregnant lady long to scope out another pregnant lady. Ryan and I were ready to tell our parents the big news. We were going to tell Ryan's parents first because my mom didn't know how to keep her mouth shut and we wanted Ryan's parents to hear it from us. Ryan and I spent one Saturday cooking and we decided to invite Ryan's whole family over. Ryan's parents arrived a whole hour before scheduled time which left me in my dirty apron and messy hair. I ran into the bathroom and took a shower. Even though it was at Ryan's house I still felt I needed to dress nice. I decided to wear a brown dress with cream colored lace tights and my favorite wedges. I did my hair really quickly which resulted in curls so I put my hair in a huge bun to calm down my monster hair. Ryan's sisters were planned to arrived anytime now. I walked into the entertainment area where Ryan's parents were sipping wine on the couch, and listening to instrumental piano. I walked into the kitchen to see if there was anything I could do and thank goodness I walked in when I did.
"Jackie, this uh pan is sizzling grease and I don't know what to do."
"I'll handle it babe, go and visit with your mom and dad."
Ryan's cooking skills where a little rusty since we didn't cook on the bus. However I loved to cook. We cooked stake and mashed potatoes and pan seared asparagus and a hug cake. Ryan's sister, Teresa knocked on the door. Ryan ran to get the door as I started to ice the cake. Finally everyone was there and I served dinner. The family loved everything we had made, or at least pretended too. After dinner I went and got the cake, I fixed everyone a slice and of course Ryan's sister insisted that I sit down as she got the ice cream and gave everyone some more wine. Laura poured me a glass of wine, just lovely.
"Well, we brought you here because we have big news."
Here it goes. What if they don't want a new grandchild. What if.... I had to relax and just listen.
"Jackie and I are expecting, we found out a couple of days ago and wanted you all to know."
I stared at the glass of wine, i swear it stared back. the room was dead silent.
(RYAN'S POV)
My parents loved jackie, I had no clue why they were silent. I grabbed jackie's hand and held it under the table. My dad stood up from the table.
"Ryan, may I have a word with you alone?"
I got up and followed my dad to the porch. He stood there and stared at me.
"Why would you even, you can't raise a child. Ryan you party every night, you don't even live with your child's mother, things have to change. I don't want this baby to suffer."
I stood there. My own dad didn't think I could raise a child. That makes you feel like a failure. My dad was never down with the whole music producer idea. He wanted me to be a doctor or a lawyer. Normal dad with a normal life.
"Jackie's and I are looking for a house. I'm settling down, planning a wedding and getting ready, I can do this"
Dad came in for a hug. He didn't trust me, I could tell. I was ready to be a father. I knew I could do this.
(JACKIE'S POV)
I sat there and stared at the table. Ryan had been gone for what seemed like hours. I wanted to be congratulated or at least an "aw a new baby" but what I wanted didn't happen. Teresa stood up, and took her plate to the sink.
"I'm going to go. Thanks for dinner."
I wanted to hug her and tell her that she was welcome anytime but I knew now wasn't the time. I got up and handed her her coat. As Teresa got in her car, the rain started to pour. Every part of me wanted to get in my car and drive as fast as I could to somewhere far away. I started to grab the plates and take them to the sink but all of the sudden I got light headed and felt like I was going to puke. I excused myself and ran to to the bathroom. There goes my dinner, finally I got up and pulled myself together and went back out, Ryan and his dad were still talking, which julie, laura and I. I put the dishes in the sink, I didn't want to be rude and wash them right now.
"Can I offer anyone some more wine?"
"I think it would be best if you left, I can get it myself."
I felt my heart drop. I grabbed my phone and left. I pulled out of Ryan's driveway and drove as fast as I could. I wanted to disappear, I wished that I could be invisible.
(RYAN'S POV)
After a long chat with my dad I came back in to my house to see my sister and mother sitting on my couch and sipping wine.
"Where's jackie?"
"She left."
I walked outside and discovered her car was gone. I called and called, straight to voice mail.
"Hey it's jackie, I'm sorry I missed you! I'll call you back as soon as I can!"
I'm sorry I missed you.
