Kiasu is in Hokkien,( a dialect) scared of losing. That is the one and only adjective to describe us Singaporeans. Every one of our parents are absolutely scared of losing. How are you kiasu? For example, a person is kiasu to me if he/she buys a huge stack of assessment books (about an inch thick) for a poor child to do. That was exactly what my friend said during recess. How can they DO that? That's when the word kiasu comes in. At least now you know. Sorry this is a short chapter... Next chapter we are going to learn about Singapore's history!
