Apocalypse Rising (Book Three)

Pieces of the Puzzle

"Breaking news," Owen read out loud from the newspaper. "Lazarus Laboratories goes down the drain."

"What?" Gwen asked in surprise as everyone looked around from their computers, even Ianto poked his head in.

"Professor Lazarus decided to experiment with 'changing what it means to be human,'" Owen waved the paper. "Changed himself so he appeared half of his real age, but he turned into this scorpion monster thing." He raised an eyebrow. "The funny thing is, there was one woman there who knew exactly what to do."

"Really?" Jack asked, straightening curiously.

"Yeah," Owen smirked. "And she wasn't on the invite list, either."

"Who was she?" Tosh asked, putting her glasses on and turning to her computer.

"Laticia Jones said her name was Doctor Caly Tyler," Owen answered.

Jack turned so quickly he nearly got whiplash. "Tyler?" he repeated.

"Yeah," Owen nodded, frowning. "That was Rose's last name, yeah?"

"Yeah," Jack swallowed. "Yeah, that was her."

"OK," Tosh murmured, flipping through video footage. "Searching for Laticia . . . " She caught a few videos and zoomed in.

"Her," Jack realized, pointing at a photo of a girl that looked an awful lot like Laticia. "Pull that up."

Tosh zoomed in, and Jack swallowed, looking at a scan revealing Martha Jones, Laticia's sister . . . and the girl with him, dark hair swirled into a bun, wearing a dark purple evening gown with a sheer black shawl around her arms. "That's her," he identified, pointing at her. "That's got to be her."

"She's gorgeous," Gwen said honestly.

"Wait a moment," Owen frowned before running to his computer. "I've seen her before!"

"Where?" Jack asked, turning to him.

"Just a mo," Owen said, doing a few things before nodding. "Royal Hope Hospital. That Martha Jones girl works there." He looked up. "One of the patients there before the moon disappeared was - "

"Caly Tyler," Ianto guessed.

"Bingo," Owen pointed at him.

"She's everywhere," Tosh shook her head as she found various other images. "The majority of what I'm finding here is that she's blonde, not brunette."

"She dyed her hair?" Gwen asked, squinting and seeing the same girl, but with a different hair color.

"Must have," Tosh nodded. "I'm looking at the coloring, and blonde is definitely her natural color."

"Rosie," Jack whispered, sounding heartbroken as he looked at the younger blonde with her. "Can you get anything else on them?"

"Working on it," Tosh nodded.

"This is who we're looking for?" Ianto asked.

"It's her," Jack nodded. The Ninth Apocalypse had been both his and Rosie's first Apocalypse. This had to be the next one, and he recognized her voice from when he'd visited the memorial back at the Powell Estate.

"Oh," Tosh blinked, startled. "Well . . . "

"What is it?" Jack asked with a frown. "I don't like the sound of that."

"The case of one Jimmy Stone," Tosh said nervously. "Involved in drug trafficking . . . got out of prison earlier this year. One Caly Tyler got him back in."

"Seriously?" Jack grinned, now that sounded like her.

"Stone tried to attack Rose Tyler in the middle of the streets," Tosh read off the report. "Caly took on Stone and his recruits without getting harmed at all."

"Like a ninja," Gwen grinned.

Jack laughed. "Now that is definitely her."

"I'll keep an eye out," Tosh promised.

"Thank you, Tosh," Jack smiled at her.

Gwen patted his shoulder. "We'll find her," she smiled.

"I'll try and find out more about Martha," Owen added, heading back to his station.

"Good," Jack nodded and turned to the staircase. "And Ianto?"

"Yes?" he asked.

"We're going to need a hell of a lot of coffee."

Ianto smirked. "Right away, sir."

Man, I love Torchwood. :) I hope you all do, too, because we'll be seeing a lot of them!

By the way, if anyone has a good website to find the full "Torchwood: Children of Earth" episodes for free, can you let me know? It's kind of obvious I'm doing that one, but that's not the first one I'm doing. ;)

You guys almost got to 75! Assuming I get one more comment (and I know I will, because you guys are that awesome) I will answer the question about the Doctor during "Daleks in Manhattan," and start stacking up comments on that chapter to answer this next question:

Which episode will we first see as the Apocalypse/Torchwood crossover?

I think you guys can do that for me. ;) "Daleks in Manhattan" will be updated as soon as I can get it written out, and HEADS UP: Caly's Wattpad takeover days will be this coming Friday/Saturday, February 27/28.
