[ 1 ] The Bedtime Story 🪴

     He sat up at the end of his friend's bed looking around curiously.

Shadow's Point of View:

    "Maria..." I called out to her, Interrupting from her book that she was reading out loud to the two of them.

"Yes, Shadow?" Maria leant down the book and peaked over at me turning the next page.

"Did the boy ever find His father?" I questioned her, tilting my head like a little child.

"Why I don't know silly, I never finished reading the book yet!" She gave a laugh, which made me smile at her.

"Okay, Okay. I'm listening." I nodded and spun my legs around onto the bed looking back at her curiously.

Maria laughed again and looked back into the book and started to read out loud once more.

"And So Eren Glanced over the tallest hill..." She paused as I raised a brow at her.

She then continues. "...And Saw His father carrying his dog back, as Eren ran to him wrapping his arms around him tightly. Oh at last..."

Her voice trailed off and closed the book slowly as I started to clap my hands together.

"I called it." I smiled and Crossed my arms across my puffy white chest.

She laughed along, as Laughter filled the room. I just happed to yawn.

"Now. You should get going to bed, Shadow." She says getting up as I hop in front of her.

"... Can't I just stay a little longer?" I tilted my head to one side again.

She just smiled.

She sighed out. "Welllll, I suppoooose so. I'll stay until you fall asleep. Hopefully Grandfather won't get mad, that you stay with me...!" Maria said as She tucked me in her bed.

I snickered a little bit and hugged her gently, as she hugged me back.

Maria layed next to me.

"I really loved that book." I spoke and looked up at the ceiling.

"I could tell." She replied back.

I nodded and yawned.

Maria then lent down and kissed me on my forehead.

"You're my best friend, silly." She giggled as I gave a small laugh back.

"Right back at cha'!" I smiled.

She smiled back.

"...Thank you. That means so much to me, Shadow."

I looked over at her. "Why do you say that, Maria?"

"Oh. Well I was lonely before you were created." Then she gave a laugh.

"..Always getting on Grandfather's nerves, bugging him for attention. But he was very busy."

I looked down for a moment.

"But Ever since I saw you in the other side of that glass, I was so excited to meet someone new! And I am so very lucky!" She smiled and giggled.

I smiled back at her, giving her the biggest hug.

"Well. I'm glad I made everything better. I'll always be here for you. No matter what!"

I think I had a star in my eye. Something... some kind of feeling... poked me in the chest. But I ignored it for now.

I never knew what the future may have to bring.

** The next Morning **

   "You called, Professor ?" I Asked.

"Why yes I did. I have a question for you." He unfolded his crossed arms, and pulled out an envelope.

I stood my ground, watching.

"A letter?" I raised a brow and tilted my head. "My I ask who wrote it?"

"Ah yes. Well I received it from earth last night. You two are going home finally." He put his hand, right back into his pocket.

"Hold on professor... y-you don't mean-"

"Oh. But I do, Shadow. And It's finally time for you to protect my dear granddaughter. I expect you'll care for her, just as you do now, eh?"

I nodded quickly.

"Of course, Professor. I'll protect her with my entire life as it will!" I balled up my fists and nodded determined to protect her life with mine entirely.

"I always knew you'd protect my little Maria. I'm glad you're here for her, son."

Son...

D-Did He just-

I quivered a shy smile.

No he didn't! W-Wait...What is this feeling??

I'm... so...excited!

"Ahem"

"T-Thank you very much Sir!" I gave a big smile and hugged him from his legs, since he was taller than me. I clearly didn't mean to act so abruptly, but I was beyond excited.

He gave a chuckle. Then rubbed my head back.

"Not a problem. Now Shadow? You should get going and tell her after she wakes up. She'd love to hear it from you I'm sure."

I quickly nodded and held the piece of paper in my hand.

"Understood, Doctor."
