-Present Day-
I jerk up suddenly. Another nightmare. Again about my brother. I wipe the sweat off my forehead. It's been twelve yeertons since I've seen him, I was looking delton and nighton for clues and anything to help but in vain. For the last ten yeertons, I've been training. I wanted to fix this mess. The war, And find my brother. A long while ago I decided to join the Dragon Guardians to help. Every day I wake up to terrible news. I'm done with hearing this. It was extra early in the morning. I open my door. I walk out and past my brother's door. The house never burned in the fire, and we never moved away. I try not to look at his door. I remember his smiling face and crystal blue eyes. I push the image out of my head so I don't start crying. In one moonth the Dragon Guard will choose two water mages to join. The two strongest, smartest and bravest, to join them and stop the war. I've been studying and practicing elemental magic. I've practiced with a sword. I was ready. They pair us with a dragon and they teach us how to do things. Later they let us participate in fights. I don't know the details since it's classified, but that much we do know. I walk out the front door and slash at the trees. The bark splinters. I was done with hearing about the ice kingdom, the shadows, or anything! I wanted my brother back. I want to be the perfect family we used to be. My parents were never the same after that night. They seemed down. I don't even know what he looks like after all these yeertons! I sit by the same lake that he pushed me in, fingering the water sending gentle ripples across the surface. I lived among other water mages. I never really had friends, not that I cared much. One of the only friends that I have also wants to join the guard, and I've been training with him for a while. He also has been training all his life. There was only space for two of each element. I hoped it would be me and him even if deep down I knew he wouldn't get picked. A feeling you could say. One of his parents was killed in the fire and he said that he didn't want others to feel the same pain. All I wanted was to find my brother and stop the war. The ice kingdom has been plagued, the ice turned black and soot was falling from the sky, not snow. Most ice elemental creatures, Like elves, fairies, and animals with the element in them have fled. Even mages. The ones left behind turned as dark as the ice, heart, and mind encased in the black ice. My mother came from the ice kingdoms but when I asked her about her family she said she didn't have any over there. I could tell she was lying but I didn't press. Deltons, Moonths, Yeertons have passed by but I wouldn't give up. Not now not ever. I've waited for this time my whole life. I just needed to join the Dragon Guard.
"Aquatica!" I hear my mother's soft voice.
"Coming!" I yell back, skipping to the door, pushing it open lightly.
My mother pushes a plate onto the table. I grab my share of cookies from it and start munching on them. They were my brother's favorite kind. Jasper. I haven't heard his name out loud in so long. I tear rolled down my cheek. My mother looks at me and comes over to me.
"I'll find him, I'll find him and bring him back." I burst.
"Sweetie, It's alright." She starts.
"I'll join the Dragon Guard. I'll get him back. I'll put an end to the war." She falls silent.
I was a bit taller than her, I am seventeen after all.
"Don't worry about me mom," I whisper.
A moonth passed by quickly. Mostly spent training. And reading. History, dragons, weapons, and more. Tomorrow the Dragon Guard would arrive and choose. Just like the last yeerton, and the one before that, and the yeerton before that... They never let shadow mages in. Of course. I hop into my bed and slowly drift off to sleep.
