Anna and Cat came into the room in front of Elliot. "Mommy!" Anna squealed, and scurried over to hug me.
Cat came over next to me, and placed her hand on my shoulder. "I knew you wouldn't leave us, Meg. You're a fighter."
They jolted away from me when I yelped in pain. "Wh-what's wrong?" Joey panicked. "Did I hurt you?"
"No," I cringed, "my leg. I can't move it, and if I try, it hurts more than you could imagine."
"One to ten?" Anna cocked her head like lost puppy. I used this all the time when something would hurt: The classic 'on a scale of one to ten, how much does it hurt?' rating. Typical mom stuff.
"Eleven," I muttered.
"Oh yeah, I never mentioned it. I dunno, I guess I didn't wanna worry you. But in the crash, you broke your leg. Even though J.D. said you'd be fine, I didn't want to put a cast on. I didn't want to put you in even more pain," Elliot explained.
"Why didn't I feel it when I was in that coma?" I asked, trying to break in my unused voice.
"When you're in a coma, you only have two out of five of your senses. Hearing and smell. Sometimes you don't have any, and are completely unconscious. But I can put the cast on now. I'll be right back." And with that, she left the room with her clipboard in hand.
"How long are visiting hours?" Cat asked. "It feels like I haven't seen you in so long! ...Well, awake, anyway." She chuckled.
"10:00 am to 8:30 pm," I answered glancing at the clock on the beside table. "Are you guys gonna stay tonight?"
Joey, Cat, and Anna nodded eagerly. "So what've you guys been up to? 'Cause well... You know what I've been doing lately." I laughed, trying to replace the awkwardness with a more cheery mood.
"Auntie Cat let me be in some of her videos. We played Minecraft, Super Smash, and Little People Big Planet!" Joey and I both laughed at her misstatement of Little Big Plant. Actually, it was exactly what Joey called the game. "Also, we watched a bunch of anime."
"Joey and I made a video on your channel explaining everything. Your and Joey's fight, the accident, the coma... Everything. They've been worried sick about you, Meghan," Cat frowned. "But tell them you're doing fine soon!"
"Will do," I couldn't help but smile at the thought of my Burries still caring about me. That meant a lot.
Elliot came back in, with a cheerful spring in her step. "Hey, Elliot? Would it be okay if my family stayed tonight?" I asked hopefully.
"Sure! Even if I said no, I don't think they'd leave your side. You've got a great family." She beamed while helping me stand. "Joey and Cat, can you help support her sides? And sit her down on the chair." Joey and Cat leapt up and rushed over to my sides.
I plopped down on the blue plastic chair, and Elliot un-velcroed a black boot that resembled a cast. "I'm sorry if this hurts." I held my foot over the boot, and she inched it onto my leg.
It seemed endless. After three seconds, I let out a loud and painful cry. Quickly after, I covered my mouth with my hands. I bit down on my hand to prevent any more dreadful noises from escaping. "It's over, Mommy!" Anna assured, after what felt like forever.
I released my hand, and ran my finger over the reddish-pink indentations imprinted on my skin. The cast ended right below my knee. I stood up on shaky and wobbly legs, trying to get used to the peg leg I was wearing. At least it felt like a peg leg, anyway.
"Since you just got the cast, you'll have to wear it for eight weeks. But you can take it off when you're sleeping, or getting dressed," Elliot said. "That's about it... Call me if you need anything." And with that, she exited the room.
"So, what do we do now?" Cat shrugged.
"Make a video saying Meghan's okay!" Joey exclaimed, hopping in the air like a child on Christmas morning. "I have my camera and laptop with me! I can upload them to all of our channels! I just need help setting up, Cat."
Anna and I watched as Joey and Cat set up the recording equipment. She sat on my lap, and hand her arms wrapped around my stomach. "How're you doing, Sweetie?" I asked, kissing the top of her head."
"Okay, I guess," she mumbled, "a little lonely. Chewie misses you, by the way."
"He said so?" I laughed, brushing her hair out of her face.
"Yeah, he barked a few times. But I understood him."
"What about your cast? Are managing that alright?"
"Yeah, but now I'll have to ask you that," she giggled while pointing to my leg. "You walk silly now."
I held her tighter in my arms, and she did as well, "You have no idea how much I missed seeing that beautiful smile of yours. And those eyes. You have your father's eyes." I felt better calling Joey Anna's dad.
"Okay, guys, we're ready!" We piled next to each other on the hospital bed, and I took a deep breath. I hope the viewers would be able to accept everything.
"One... Two... Three."
