Oneshot #3 Rejection (Adrien x Reader)

A/N: You and Marinette both know the both of you like Adrien and have a friendly competition about who will end up with him.

You arrive at school spotting Marinette hiding behind a pillar. You follow her line of sight to Adrien talking with Nino and Alya. You go up to her and tap her shoulder startling her.

"Ahh oh it's just you Y/n" She smiles at you and you smile in return.

"Have you asked him out yet?" You quirked an eyebrow at her. She brings her hands up to cover her face.

"No.." You lightly chuckle patting her head. She looks at you as you smirk.

"That means I still have a chance right?"  She smirks back at you.

"Not if I ask him out first."

"Alright, then I guess we'll see who will ask him out first." The bell rings and you both head to class.

As the school day continues you promise yourself to ask Adrien out at the end of the day. Currently in PE class your class is doing laps and those who finished are playing with the equipment.

Once you finished you grabbed your water bottle and as you drank some your shirt lifted up a little. Little did you know Marinette was watching as your shirt lifted up causing heat to rise to her face.

In all honesty Marinette was not in love with Adrien, but rather in love with you. The little talks about who would win Adrien's heart were the only way she could talk to you without stuttering.

Alya told her she shouldn't keep pretending to be head over heels for Adrien when she saw how as soon as Marinette noticed that you had made it to the bottom of the stairs that led to the entrance she hid behind a pillar and pretended to be fawning over Adrien.

She would stop, but she loves it when your smiles are directed at her whenever you both talk about who would Adrien choose.

You take a seat on a nearby bench and close your eyes. At the end of the day you steel yourself and walked towards Adrien. He was waiting at the entrance of the school for his bodyguard. He then turned his head to the side and noticed you approaching him.

"Oh hey Y/N" He smiles. You smile back sliding your hands into your pockets.

"..I have something to ask you," He nodded showing he was listening to you,"Do you want to go watch a movie with me or something?" You curl your fingers in and out keeping your hands inside your pockets.

"Sure, I'll love to go with a friend like you," You furrowed your eyebrows in confusion, "besides I'm sure father will let me, he knows we're childhood friends after all." You form your hands into fists as they started sweating shaking your head.

"No I mean as... more than friends." You stare at your shoes not daring to look up and see his reaction.

"Oh." He remains silent before placing his hand on his neck.

"Listen..Y/n, I only see you as a dear friend." Your heart broke at being rejected.

"Is there someone who has won your heart?" You try to remain calm keeping the tears at bay. He sheepishly looks away.

"Yeah, something like that." An awkward silence surrounds the both of you.

"WellIhavetogetgoingnowbye" You rambled running away almost tripping on the stairs going down. Adrien watches you with a frown.

You isolated yourself in your room hugging a body pillow of (waifu/husbando) grateful that today was the last day of school for the week.

The next day came quickly and you woke up to the sound of knocking on your door. You hadn't realized you had fallen asleep. You bring your blankets up to your face and lifted your head a little.

"Come in." Thinking it was your mom who had entered you didn't bother opening your eyes.

"Hey Y/n oh sorryIdidin'tknowyouwerestillsleeping" Your eyes shot opened recognizing Marinette's voice. You see she has her back facing you and a box on her hands.

"It's fine, you can look I have clothes on." She turned around and saw you were wearing a panda onesie.

"What's that?" You pointed to the box in her hands oblivious to the blush that coated her cheeks.

"Oh they're macaroons I was making some for a friend and had extra so I decided to bring them to you." She offered the box out to you and you took it with a nod.

"Is that all?" She fidgeted with her fingers.

"Actually, I wanted to tell you something."

"Alright" You sat down on your bed and patted a spot next to you motioning for her to sit down. She does and takes your hands in hers looking at you with a sudden boost of confidence.

"Y/n I love you."

"I-" You're cut off as Marinette softly squeezes your hands.

"As more than a friend." You go silent before slouching.

"Marinette I'm sorry, but I don't love you that way," You look at her in the eyes, "besides I just got rejected and I don't want to reciprocate your feelings only to use you as a rebound." You said softly as you notice her eyes had started to water.

She nods and gives you a hug before running out of the room presumably to headed to her house.

You sigh and lay on your back. You spot a purple butterfly entering your room through a window and get up.

You grab a hand fan and try to fan it away from you. Your attempts are proven futile when the butterfly fades into the fan.

Rejet I am Hawkmoth and I grant you the power to punish those who reject someone a-

"No!" You clutch your head.

What?!-

"I won't punish anyone, everyone is free to make their own choices about their love life!"

W-

The purple butterfly fades out of the fan and you put down your hands. You watch as it exits your room through the same window it entered through.

You fall to your knees and bring them up to your chest as you lay down sideways on the floor. Even if I'm not loved back by the person I love and I can't love someone who loves me no one else is to blame. It was my choice to express my feelings and I think I would have lived with regret if I didn't do what I did.

Tears fall down your face as you close your eyes crying silently.

Even if I do believe this... WHY?! WHY?! WHY? Why? why?..why?..do I not deserve to be happy?.....

That day was the first of many times Y/n would cry themselves to sleep.
