"What do you mean?" Hotch asked.
"Firstly Nancy seems like a good mother and in the pictures she showed me Katie looked incredibly happy with her family" I said.
"It's easy to fake a photo, trust me my ex wives were experts at smiling for the camera" Rossi said.
"I know but, Nancy doesn't neglect her daughter she loves her and also Nancy Quill never recieved a note like the others" I sighed.
"L/n is right, the person who kidnapped Katie might not be the same person who kidnapped the others" Hotch said running his hands over his head.
"So it's just a coincidence then?" Morgan asked.
"A pretty shitty coincidence" Emily muttered.
We informed the sherriff that we were most likely looking for two different people who weren't working together. Spencer set up a geographical profile. We tried getting in contact with the parents of the other kids but they didn't answer any calls and when we drove out to their houses they weren't even home.
All we knew was that the man who kidnapped Katie was different than the person who kidnapped the other kids.
It was getting late and we headed to the hotel to get some rest as much as we hated it there was nothing we could do. Hotch sent us all back to the hotel whilst he and Rossi stayed back at the precinct trying to get some sort of lead.
I entered my room slamming the door behind me tossing my duffel bag at the foot of my bed, angry I couldn't do more. Cases which involved kids always took a huge toll on the team.
All I could hope was that whoever had them wasn't hurting them.
I sat down on the edge of the bed, the crappy hotel bed shifting slightly under my weight. I exhaled and ran my hands through my hair, as my leg bounced up and down. To say I was stressed would be an understatement.
I heard a knock on my door. My leg instinctively stopped shaking. I sighed and ran my hands through my hair before getting up to answer the door.
I slid the lock out it making a clinking sound as it hit the door. Slowly opening the door I peeked around the door. Reid was standing there his hands in his pockets and a tiny smile was displayed on his face.
"Hey" I greeted him.
"Hey" He replied.
I stepped to the side holding open the door for him. Reid gace me a nod and entered my room. I exhaled and closed the door behind us sliding the lock back in place.
"I uh just came to see how you were doing" Spencer said.
He spun on his heels to face me. I let out a sigh and sat on my bed.
"We should be out there looking for those kids" I said throwing my hands in the air.
Spencer sighed and came to sit next to me on the bed, the bed shifting underneath his weight. Spencer rested his hand on my lower back.
"Hotch and Rossi are staying at the precinct incase anything changes, but Y/n we can't do anything without any evidence or leads" Spencer said.
"And as much as it pains me we can't do anything" Spencer sighed his head hanging low.
"I know it's just it's been over 24 hours Spence for Katie you know what that means and those other kids have been there for days" I said my voice threatening to break.
Spencer said nothing, instead he shuffled closer and wrapped his arms around me. I let out a breath and buried my head into his neck.
"Believe me I would much rather be out there searching, but Hotch is right we won't be any help if we are too tired and remember the local police are doing all they can" Spencer reassured me.
"I know it just sucks" I said sadly.
"Sometimes this job does suck but it makes the times we do save people even better and we will save those kids" Spencer said.
I nodded and removed my head off Spencer's shoulder. Spencer gave me a weak smile, which I returned.
"We should probably get some rest" Spencer said cradling the side of my face with his large hand.
As if right on cue a yawn escaped from my mouth.
"But what if-"
"Hotch will call us if he gets a break in the case" Spencer cut me off knowing exactly what I was going to say.
Spencer went to stand up but I stopped him.
"Could you um stay with me... please" I said softly.
Spencer stopped in his steps and placed a kiss on my forehead.
"Of course I'll stay I'll just go grab my clothes whilst you get changed" He smiled.
"Thanks Spence" I said.
He smiled and left the hotel room, I took this time to get changed and a few moments later Spencer returned. I climbed into the hotel bed pulling up the white duvet over my body, Spencer climbed in next to me facing me. His head propped up on his arm.
I smiled and moved closer to him nuzzling my head against his chest. Through the thin fabric of his shirt I could hear his heart beat. Spencer chuckled which sent vibrations through my body, he rolled over allowing me to properly rest my head on his chest.
Spencer than draped one arm over my waist as the other stayed bent above his head.
"Goodnight" He said softly.
"Goodnight Spence" I replied already feeling my eyes grow heavy.
