Where is Tony Stark? // Iron Man 3

Lexi-Mae's POV

I woke up in an unfamiliar room. I looked around and saw my mom in the corner, staring out of the window. She looked like she'd been crying. What happened...? She glanced over at me.

''Oh, sweetheart.'' She sighed, rushing over to me and sitting down on the bed.

''What happened? Where am I? Where's daddy?'' I bombarded her with questions.

''Sh, sh...calm down, sweetie. You're in the hospital-''

''WHAT?'' I cut her off. I. Hate. Hospitals.

''-Calm down, Lexi. You're in the hospital. We...um.'' She wiped away a tear, ''Our house...it got blown up and uh...we were in the explosion.'' She stammered, on the verge of a breakdown.

''Where's daddy?'' I repeated. She handed me a newspaper that was on the nightstand. I unfolded it and saw the front page. Instantly I dropped it and burst into tears, my mom pulled me into a hug as we both cried.

It was only an hour later that she had to sort out the house, where apparently, a bunch of emergency services where.

The next morning, I woke up to see my mom was asleep in the corner on the couch. With...what's that in her hand? Is that...Bunny?

I quietly got up and pulled the covers off of me. As I stood, I winced at both the cold floor on my bare feet and the pain that shot through my legs, back and neck.

I crept over to where my mom lay and pulled a blanket - that was on the couch behind her - over her. I let her cuddle Bunny. Then I remembered everything that happened yesterday.

The explosion, my dad presumed dead, everything was destroyed. I silently crept over to the window and stared out at it, while letting the tears fall. I zoned out, not even realising a doctor had entered the room. That is until he cleared his throat. I practically jumped out of my skin until I turned around.

''I do apologise. I didn't mean to make you jump.'' He smiled. He had quite a goofy smile, ''My name is Dr. Reynolds, and you are... Lexi-Mae. Correct?''

I nodded, then glanced at my mom. She was stirring in her sleep. The doctor followed my gaze and chuckled, ''I'd say you both need some well-earned sleep.''

That's when my mom woke up. She looked around to see both me and the doctor before sitting up and brushing her hair out quickly. I sat down beside her, not wanting to talk to the doctor alone.

''We've decided it's best that Lexi-Mae stays here for another overnight observation. It could also help with your current...situation.'' Dr. Reynolds stated.

''Alright, yes. Thankyou, doctor.'' My mom spoke. Dr. Reynolds nodded and left the room.

''I believe I have something for you.'' My mom smiled, handing me Bunny. My face instantly lit up as I cuddled him close. ''I also found out something...''

''What is it?'' I asked, wondering what she could possibly be on about.

''Your dad...I believe he is safe.'' She said, holding back tears.

''Wait, what? How do you know?''

''He sent me a message through his Iron Man helmet.''

I laughed in joy as we both pulled into a hug.

''Listen, sweetheart. While you're staying here, I'm going to get us a hotel with Maya, okay? Maya is also in the hospital, she's being discharged today.'' My mom informed me. I simply nodded, happy about my dad being alive.

Third Person

''Why were you at the house last night?'' Pepper asked, keeping her eyes on the road ahead. Maya didn't answer, ''What was so important that you had to speak to Tony?''

Maya took a deep breath before answering, ''I think that my boss is working for the Mandarin. So, if you still wanna talk about it I suggest that we get ourselves someplace safe.''

Pepper was shocked, ''Your boss works for the Mandarin, you think? But Tony says your a botanist. So...''

''That figures. What I actually am is a biological DNA coder running a team of 40 out of a privately funded think tank. But sure, you can call me a botanist.'' Maya sighed.

''This boss of yours, does he have a name?'' Pepper enquired.

''Yeah, Aldrich Killian.''

Pepper's heart dropped as she looked at Maya. Aldrich Killian was Maya's boss = Possibly working for the Mandarin. People who tried to kill Tony, injured her and Maya, and put her daughter in the hospital. Oh, hell no.

Lexi-Mae's POV

I sat on the couch where my mom slept last night, incredibly bored. I had no laptop, iPad. Just a cheap TV that had 3 shows and Bunny. I stared out the window, thinking where my dad could be. He couldn't have gone far, right?

Then the TV randomly turned on, drawing my attention toward it. It had a symbol with knives making a cross and a rainbow striped background. Then a man showed up on the screen. Huh?

''Mr President.'' The man spoke, ''Only two lessons remain. And I intend to finish this before Christmas morning.'' The camera zoomed out to reveal that same man pointing a gun at another man laying on the floor. What on Earth..?
''Meet Thomas Richards. Good strong name. Good strong job. Thomas, here, is an accountant for the Roxxon Oil Corporation.'' By now, Thomas was sobbing. I don't blame him. I clutched Bunny close. ''But I'm sure he's a really good guy. I'm going to shoot him in the head, live on your television, in 30 seconds.'' WHAT?!
''The number for this telephone is in your cell phone.'' The man pointed at a phone next to him on a table. ''Exciting, isn't it, imagining how it got there? America, if your president calls me in the next half-minute, Tom lives. Go!''

The telephone rang. The man didn't pick it up. Instead, he shot Thomas. I screamed and dug myself further into the sofa, holding onto Bunny for dear life. I heard someone enter but didn't want to look up.

''There's just one left, President Ellis. So run away, hide, kiss your children goodbye. Because nothing, not your army, not your red, blue and white attack dog, can save you. I'll see you soon.''

That's what I heard before someone turned the TV off.

''Lexi..?'' A male voice called. I recognized it. Dr. Reynolds.

I slowly looked up at the man with a worried expression. ''Th- the man...he-'' I burst out into tears before I could continue. Immediately, Dr. Reynolds sat down beside me and attempted to comfort me without startling me further. Although, soon enough, I calmed down.

Pepper and Maya stay in the hotel the night after the explosion instead, for this to work. So Maya stays overnight in the hospital while Pepper stays with Lexi, then Pepper and Maya stay in the hotel while Lexi is in hospital.
