Chapter 12

We cycled in complete silence for another mile or so until Zehn Zehn finally spoke up.

"How is your watch still working after the pulse?"

"It's not electronic, it's mechanical," he replied. They carried on talking from ahead. I looked to my left to where Gabriel was. 'He is so pretty' I thought to myself. I don't know why I'm even thinking that. I cringed at the thought. Gabriel turned around and noticed me staring. I felt my face heat up and I quickly looked infront of me. I heard a light laugh escape from his lips.

"Are you okay?" He asks quietly.

I nod my head quickly, nervously laughing, "yeah... yeah I'm fine," I swallow.

Before another thought could come to my mind, vehicles sped last unfront of us, causing me to jump. I soon noticed that they were army trucks.

"Shit," I mumbled under my breath, hopping off my bike and letting it crash onto the ground. Before I knew it, the others were running after the trucks.

"Hey! Wait," They all yell. I look behind me to see soldiers pointing their guns at us. Taking a step back and I slowly raise my hands.

"Stay where you are. Do not move!" One soldier says, in a deep but loud voice.

"Same side, same side, same side!" Alex says in a high, nervous voice.

"Kids! Kids! You should've evacuated hours ago, we are at war."

Alex pipes up again, "Sir, we were in the mountains when the attack started. Can you tell us what's going on? How big is the attack?"

"Did it reach nation's finest Mercedes dealership?" Dariush asks.

"Dude, how can you..." Zehn Zehn is interrupted.

"My dad owns it. I'm the future heir."

"All I can tell you is that you're not safe here," the soldier explains, "Everyone on the bus right now, I'll take you to the evacuation center."

The soldier starts walking over to the bus and we all run after him telling him to stop. He turns around finally listening to what we need to say.

"You need to take this key to Pasedena," Alex demands. Lifting the key off of his neck.

The soldier stops in confusion, "Where did you get this?"

"An astronaut from the spacestation gave it to us. She told us we needed to take it to JPL. What's on that key can stop the aliens," I let on. He grabs the key from Alex's hand.

"You need to take that to JPL in Pasedena and take it to a Dr. Fielding." Alex explains.

"We've been receiving a Morse code from a Dr. Fielding at JPL all day. Finding this key has been the primary objective," the soldier smiles, admiring the key, "Thanks, kid. You may have just saved the world."

We all start laughing and patting eachother on the back as we make our way to the bus. As I step onto the bus from behind me I hear Dariush, "Move your ass," he demands while slapping me on the ass. I tense up but keep on walking until I find a seat and sit down. As soon as I make eye contact with him I scowl.

"Y/N we did it!" Alex says to me, I high five him then ruffle his hair.

"You did really well, kid," I smile at him.

"We all did," Zehn Zehn speaks.

I lean my head back onto the seat, closing my eyes. It's been a long journey.

I suddenly hear loud bangs and gunshots coming from ahead of us. I snap open my eyes to see another vehicle slamming into the front of the bus. The glass shatters, flying everywhere and that's when I feel a sharp pain in my left arm. I look down to find a large piece of glass has dug it's way into my arm. I gasp in pain but soon find myself running to the exit of the bus as Gabriel kicks down the door.

"Come on, let's go!" He calls out. As we step out, aircrafts are flying all over the place and we run, just missing the many explosions going on around us. We run back to the front of the bus where the soldier from before is lying on the ground and seems to be trapped under a vehicle.

"You gotta get out of here!" He stuggles for breath.

"It's okay we're gonna get you out!" I reassure him, attempting to lift the vehicle. My arm is still in severe pain. I start panicking, "I can't move it by myself!"

He looks at me, "Stop, stop. You've gotta go!"

I see Zehn Zehn grabbing the radio off the ground and I avert my eyes back to the injured solider.

"We can't leave you here!" Alex says.

"Stop, it's okay. It's on you now," He pulls the key off his neck and passes it to Alex, "Promise me, you will get this key to Pasedena? Promise me, you won't let anything stop you?"

Alex shakes his head, "but we can't leave you-"

"Promise me?"

Alex nods his head.

"Come on, we have to go Alex," I say gently, dragging him along.
