                                                                April 4 9:30am

                                                               District Court

                                                       Defendant Lobby No. 2

"What?! They found a KNIFE on me?!" Kyle exclaimed.

I had told him everything that we found out the previous day. "Wait, you didn't know about that?" I asked. "Nuh-uh," he replied. "I was still a bit dazed when the police got there."

"Um, Nick?" Maya said suddenly. "What's that huge group of kids over there?" I turned around to look at what she was pointing at. A bunch of kids, all around 13 to 14 years old, were stood there, chatting excitedly. A few teachers were attempting to keep the noise down, but with minimal success.

"Oh, them? The headteacher must've let them skip school in order to watch the trial." Kyle said. Soon enough, the group noticed us and the talk immediately quietened down, replaced by whispers and cold stares.

"Hey, there he is!" someone whispered.

"Is that Kyle's lawyer? What's his name again?"

"Uh..... It was in the paper this morning, but... I dunno, I forgot."

"Do you really think Kyle killed Jordan?"

"I heard court's super scary. I hope Kyle doesn't wet himself!"

"Man, that'd be hilarious!"

Kyle sighed, avoiding their eye contact. "When will this be over...?" he muttered.

The bailiff then emerged from the courtroom doors and complete silence fell over the lobby. "Court will commence in three minutes," he announced. "Please proceed into the courtroom, Mr. Wright."

As soon as the bailiff left, the whispers started again.

"Oh, yeah! That's his name! Wright! Phoenix Wright!"

"Hey, wasn't he the lawyer that was in that case in February? You know, the Gatewater Hotel one?"

"Is he really gonna get Kyle a not-guilty?"

I tried to push the whispers out of my mind to focus on the trial. (We don't have a lot to go on... But we'll have to fight with what we've got!)

                                                                   April 4 10:00am

                                                                    District Court

                                                                   Courtroom No. 2

"Court is now in session for the trial of Kyle Young." the judge announced. "Is the defense ready?"

"Yes, Your Honour." I replied. I looked through the gallery. It was practically filled to the brim with students. Among the excited crowd I could see Angelica and Niamh sat next to each other. Angelica gave me a thumbs up, mouthing 'Good luck!'

"And the prosecution? Are you prepared?" the judge asked, turning to Prosecutor Mitchell.

"Hmph... As ready as I'll ever be, Your Honour." the prosecutor replied.

The judge asked Prosecutor Mitchell to deliver his opening statement. "On April 1st at approximately 3:10pm," the prosecutor started. "A student by the name of Jordan Tucker was murdered at Ashbrooke Boarding School. Here is the crime scene photo, for Your Honour's perusal."
