"... So you're sure that's all you did?"

"Yes, sir, I swear! I moved the body and tampered with the crime scene! I didn't kill her!"

"Even so, your actions perverted the course of justice. Had it not been for you, Cla- the victim's killer would have been caught!"

"I-I know that, and I apologise! But... I-I panicked!"

"*sigh*... Fine. You are excused."

"But... why are you still investigating this case? It was six months ago, sir..."

"..... This case... It.... means a lot to me. That's why... I have to get to the bottom of it!"

*CRASH!*

"Prosecutor Mitchell, sir!"

"Hm? What is it, Detective Gumshoe?"

"I'm sorry, sir, I really am, but... you're under arrest on suspicion of murder!"

"Wh-Whaaaat?!'

(Ahh... Summertime sure is sweet.)

I was stood by the window, looking out into the street. I could see the Gatewater Hotel across the road. There were kids enjoying their weekend, laughing and eating ice cream.

(I hope Maya and Pearls are doing okay... )

A week after the Ashbrooke Boarding School case, Maya said she wanted to focus on her spirit medium training for a while, so she left to train in her hometown, Kurain Village.

Just then, the phone began to ring. Already knowing who would be on the other end, I picked up the phone.

"Hey, Maya-"

"AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH! NIIIIIIIICK!"

The phone flew out of my hand and crashed to the floor. I stood still for a few seconds while I waited for the ringing in my ears to stop. Eventually, I retrieved the phone from the floor.

"What was that for?!" I yelled into the reciever.

"I'm sorry!" Maya replied. "I couldn't help it!" (Couldn't help it?! My eardrum almost burst!)

"Anyway, what's up?!" I asked.

"Just turn on the TV! To the news! Hurry!" Maya exclaimed.

Bewildered, I rushed over to the TV remote and pressed the 'on' button. The worldwide news flashed on screen.

"Breaking news," the male news reporter said. "Police officials confirm that an officer was murdered last night in the prison."

(Huh?! A murder?!)
