Chapter 1: Christmas Surprise (Turnabout Christmas)

December 25 07:30am

Wright and Co. Law Offices

"Nick! Nick, where are you?" I called out into the dim light of the office.

I'm Maya Fey, 19 years old, a spirit medium and Nick's ace assistant! Phoenix Wright is the boss of this law office, but I prefer to call him 'Nick'. We've been working together for about 3 years now, and it's been great fun! That is, if you can call catching psychopathic murderers 'fun'. I help out in Nick's cases in any way I can, even if it means channeling my sister's spirit to help him out when he's really stumped.

(Are you even here, Nick?), I thought to myself. I was holding my cousin's hand as we looked everywhere for Nick. My younger cousin is Pearl Fey, although I call her 'Pearly'. She's only 9 years old but she's an amazing spirit medium. Like me!

Half an hour later, we heard the door open. You'll never guess who walked in then. It was Nick! How dare he be late for Christmas?! "Nick!" I cry out to him! "Merry Christmas!" Nick looked pretty sleepy and his hair was more pointy than usual! "Morning, Maya. You too Pearls." He yawned. I gave a deep sigh. "Nick, when will you ever learn that this is the most important time of the year for us?" Pearly giggled slightly. "So what are we doing today, Mr.Nick?" she said sweetly. "I hope you prepared something nice for Mystic Maya!" Pearly giggled again.

You see, Pearly has a crazy idea that Nick and I are dating or something. She loves to set us up at places like resturants and hotel rooms. I keep telling her that our relationship is purely proffesional but she never listens.

Nick looked out of the office window. "Well, you're both in luck. It's not snowing yet today so we can get there in time." I looked at Pearly but she shrugged. "Get where in time, Mr.Nick?" she asked him. But the only answer Nick gave us was "You'll see." Oh ,he knows I don't like it when he's all mysterious!

It seemed like we'd been sat in that taxi forever when Pearly jumped from her seat to look out the window. "Look, Mystic Maya! Look!" she gasped. I kneeled beside her, pulling on the restraint of my seatbelt to look outside. That's when I saw the large sign.

December 25 12:30pm

Gatewater Land

Nick had brought us to Gatewater Land for Christmas! We spent hours on the rides. Pearly was a little nervous to go on the rollercoater with me, but she went on anyway and really enjoyed it! After trying out half the attractions, we stopped by a burger stand to eat lunch. Burgers are my super all-time favourite food! I got the largest one there, obviously. Nick said that there was no way I'd eat it all, but I did. Take that, Nick!

It was past 4pm when we had tried out all the rides. "See, Nick? I told you! My stomach is as tough as steel! I can eat anything, go on any super-speedy ride and not get sick once!" I was telling him this as he finished calling back the taxi company. It'd be cool if Nick learnt to drive. Then he could take us to Gatewater Land every weekend! Nick put his phone back in his pocket. "Maya, I don't think the point is to see how much food you can keep where it belongs." He tried to be serious but he couldn't help cracking a smile.

Demember 25 17:30pm

Wright and Co. Law Offices

"Thank you so much for taking us to Gatewater Land today, Mr.Nick!" Pearly said. I nodded beside her. "Yeah, that was amazing!" Nick was sat at his desk, filing some legal papers. "Think of it as a giant Christmas present." he said, shelving away the papers and turning to smile at us."You two had been talking about that and I decided to look it up."

Pearly and I left the office. We take the train home, since it's all the way up in the mountains. We live in Kurain Village, which is where the Fey family lives and trains. We used to live with Pearly's mother and my aunt, Morgan Fey. But last year, there was a murder at the village and she was arrested for being an accomplice to the killer. I feel sorry for Pearly, knowing that she only has me left.

December 25 20:45pm

Kurain Village

It was quite dark by the time we got home. Pearly almost fell asleep on the train. She must have been really tired. I wasn't that surprised, though. Pearly went on every ride with me! After she fell asleep, I also started to drift off...

It was dark. I didn't know where I was. I tried to move but I couldn't. I looked up and there was someone there, walking towards me. I couldn't see who they were, not clearly. But I could tell they were wearing something blue. They looked familiar. They were pointing something at me. I tried to speak but my voice wasn't working. Suddenly...

-BANG!-

December 26 07:30am

Kurain Village

I opened my eyes and sat up. Was that really a dream? (It felt so real, though...) I thought. A figure in front of me... pointing... and then a loud noise. It sounded like the figure in my dream SHOT me! And just who was this person, anyway? After a few minutes of wondering, I decided to shake it off. It was just a silly dream!

Pearly and I had just finished our training for the day when I got a call from Nick. "Maya, our services are once again required. Can you come down to the office to discuss the case?" I gladly accepted the offer. I went straight to the office. Pearly was very independant for her age, so she reassured me that she would be fine for a while on her own, as long as she stayed in the village.

December 26 09:30am

Wright and Co. Law Offices

I arrived at the office a few hours later and I saw Nick waiting for me. He was talking to a lady wearing a kimono. She was quite a powerful looking woman who you really didn't want to upset! Nick noticed me and beckoned me over. "This is Plum Kitaki," he said. "And she's got a request for us. A defense request." I was pretty excited to get another case!

As I expected, Ms. Kitaki was a tough lady who always carried a broom with her. At first I had no idea why, but then when she got irritated it was revealed to be a hidden sword! She told us about how her son was accused of murder and that multiple other lawyers had turned her down. "My son killed nobody, Mr.Wright. I am sure he is innocent." Nick looked puzzled while listening, so I asked him what was up. "I don't know why, but this all feels very familiar..." he said.

We agreed to help her son, because Nick was automatically certain that he was innocent.....and because he felt like she would cut us down if we didn't accept. So it's Boxing Day and we've got a client! I can't wait to start this case with Nick!
