James Gordon entered his girlfriend's apartment. He turned around when he saw his girlfriend, Barbara, walk towards him, wearing a black dress. "Wow,"
"And look at you and your excellent suit," Barbara flirted. "You know, I'm so happy you don't have to wear that silly uniform anymore,"
"You told me it looked good,"
"I lied," Barbara said as she kissed his cheek "You ready to rock and roll?"
"Uh...Barbara, I'm beat. Do we really have to go to this thing?"
"No, of course not,"
"Thank you,"
"You owe me," Barbara said as she kissed James.
Gordon sighed as he took off his jacket.
"So talk to me,"
"We're getting nowhere on the Wayne case. I made a promise to Bruce Wayne, and I can't deliver,"
"But you will,"
"I don't know. Maybe I'm out of my depth,"
Barbara rubbed Gordon's arm "Hey, I very much doubt you are out of your depth. But even if you are, you know how to swim, don't you?"
"Yes, I do,"
"So swim,"
"I'll swim. You're right,"
"Are you hungry?" Barbara asked as she laid her legs on Gordon's lap.
"I'm all right. I had a few dogs,"
"When I'm Mrs. Gordon and you're living here all the time...I'm gonna put you on a proper healthy diet. Mm-hmm,"
James pulled Barbara close and the two had a makeout session until his cell phone buzzed on the table. Gordon huffed as he grabbed the phone.
"I've got a lead." Harvey said on the other end "Meet me at Fourth and Grundy in an hour,"
"On my way," James said.
***
Harvey was sitting on a doorstep when Gordon walked up. "Hey,"
"You all right?" James asked.
"Couple drinks. I'll be fine," Harvey said as he took a drink from his canteen.
"Bullock..."
"Fish Mooney heard from one of her fences a guy tried to sell him an antique. Four strand pearl necklace with gold settings, one strand is broken,"
"Like Martha Wayne was wearing,"
"Mm. Guy's name is Mario Pepper,"
The duo headed into the apartment complex.
"Career street thug. Long sheet for robbery, assault, rape, extortion, drug dealing," Harvey listed off as they headed towards Mario Pepper's apartment on the upper floor.
"Nice guy," Gordon said sarcastically as he knocked on the door.
A little girl opened the door.
Gordon knelt down "Hi. What's your name?"
"Ivy," The girl replied.
"Ivy, is daddy home?"
"You don't wanna talk to daddy,"
"Why's that, Ivy?"
Ivy looked inside before looking back at the two GCPD detectives "He's mean,"
"Hey, who is it?" Mario Pepper asked from inside the apartment.
Ivy hurried away from the door as Mario Pepper took her place at the door.
"Mario Pepper, we need to talk," James Gordon said as he stood up.
"I've done nothing," Mario Pepper said.
"So it'll be a pleasant talk,"
Mario Pepper leads the two detectives inside.
"Where were you last Saturday around 9:30?"
"I was here at home with my family," Mario Pepper claimed.
"That's right." Mrs. Pepper said "He was here,"
"A pearl necklace sound familiar?" Harvey questioned.
"No," Mario said.
"Then I guess you don't mind we, uh, take a look around the place,"
"You need a warrant,"
"You're a felon on parole. All we need is reasonable cause,"
Mario moved the table to block the detectives as he made a run for it.
Gordon followed Mario through the window and began to chase him across the rooftops, dropping for cover when Mario began firing at him. "Stop! Stop or I'll shoot!"
Mario began climbing down a set of fire escape steps.
James made his way into an alleyway and raised his gun until Mario came up and swung a knife towards him. James picked a trash can lid and used it to protect himself from Mario's attacks.
Two shots went off, hitting Mario in the chest.
Gordon glanced backward and saw Harvey holding the gun "Thanks,"
***
Gordon was getting his hand wrapped while other officers looked throughout Mario Pepper's apartment.
"We got him," An officer called out as he held the pearl necklace in his hand. The officer showed the necklace to Gordon and Harvey.
"We got him," Harvey chuckled.
